Thought I'd start a list of the best campsites in our state and national parks. These would be the primo spots in particular campgrounds. Characteristics may be that the campsite is secluded, on a river or lake, a great view (of ocean mountains, etc.), large (with plenty of room to stretch out). To get things started - I would recommend the following:
Kings Canyon National Park (Lodgepole): 98, 99 and 100 - these are tent sites, but have a lot of room and are right on a creek - with a great view across the creek and forest beyond.
Yosemite National Park (North Pines Campground): 520, 522, 524 and 526 - these are all nice sized campsites and are right on the Merced River. Campsites 502, 504 and 506 are not bad too - on the river, good size and a little more secluded.
Silver Strand State Beach, CA: this campground is a parking lot right on the beach a few miles south of Hotel Del Coronado in San Diego. All of the sites are pretty tight, but if you want a little room w/o a neighbor on at least one side - go for #41 (the northern most site on the beach). You can also try for #79 (on the beach, no neighbor to your south) and #81 (on the beach, no neighbor on your north).
Please add to the list and we'll put together a list/publish on campsitephotos.com!
