Point Mugu State Park Campgrounds

Point Mugu State Park is located in the Santa Monica Mountains, less than an hour's drive north of Los Angeles. Five miles of Pacific shoreline with rocky bluffs, sandy beaches and sand dunes provide some of the most gorgeous scenery anywhere. While Highway 101 meanders along the coast in many locations, you must leave it and drive west to Highway 1 in order to see Point Mugu.

The park's 15,000 acres of wilderness encompass the western reaches of the Santa Monica Mountains to the edge of the Pacific. Much of the area is rugged: Rocky canyons lined with coast live oaks, chaparral and coastal shrub feature 70 miles of prime hiking trails and nearly as many miles of dirt fire roads (shared by hikers, bikers and horseback riders). The park has two popular campgrounds, Sycamore Canyon and Thornhill Broome Beach.
