Kenneth L Wilson Camping Guide

The Catskill Park is a mountainous region including 600,000 acres of public and private lands in Southeastern New York's Ulster, Greene, Delaware and Sullivan Counties. Evidence of the area's unique natural history can be seen in the impressive skyline formed by the ninety-eight peaks over 3,000 feet in elevation. Human activities such as logging, quarrying, tanning, trapping, and fishing have also shaped the Park's more recent history.  Outdoor activities include hunting, fishing, camping, horseback riding, snowmobiling, hiking, biking, wildlife viewing and exploring historic sites.

Just returned from a four day weekend and this place is outstanding. The grounds are beautifully kept and the bathroom and shower facilities are cleaned, like clockwork, twice daily. Although some of the sites are quite close together (5, 6, & 7 for example) they are for the most part level and tree coverage is thick. There are a few grassy, sunny sites too (75, for example) if that's your thing. The staff is knowledgeable, helpful and friendly. Four couples reserved sites 26, 27. 28 & 29. All great sites... close to two bathroom facilities, but not too close. There is a dish washing station behind the garbage collection/recycling building which is quite handy when staying in a area with a large bear population. They strictly enforce the rules regarding food storage and if you leave food or trash unattended you will get a warning notice and possibly evicted. My husband and I stumbled across bear scat during a walk through the woods, so the proper storage of your food and toiletries is essential. Quiet time is also strictly enforced from 10PM to 7AM, as well. The only issue I had was that the grill on the fire pit was not conducive to cooking. The grill slats were very far apart. Luckily we had our portable grill grate with us to compensate.
