South Carlsbad State Beach in San Diego County, features fantastic beaches with swimming, surfing, fishing and the famous evening jogs or strolls. The large bluff-top campground is very popular, and is often sold out during summer months. Don't forget to look before you book - we've JUST updated photos for all sites (in February, 2016).
The campground has 223 campsites with about 1/3 located on the bluff and have uninterrupted views of the Pacific Ocean. Access to the beach is by wooden stair cases which drop you directly on the beach from the campground. There is a store and snack shop which has a fantastic view of the beach below. The beach offers day use as well as camping up to 30 days. Also at the campground you'll find a camp store, snack shop, amphitheater, hot showers, flush toilets and a snappy dump station. Some of the campsites have RV hookups, and all sites have a table, fire ring and grill.
South Carlsbad State Beach stretches from La Costa Avenue north to Cannon Road and offers a large bluff-top campground that is very popular — especially in the summer. Most of the beach is located along rugged cliffs. There are some safe access points to the beach. You can find these where cars are parked on the small turnouts along the highway. Stairs lead to South Carlsbad State Beach, at the campgrounds and north of the campgrounds. Near its south end are jetties which form the entrance to the Batiquitos Lagoon.

The campground entrance is not accessible from Poinsettia Ave.
The beach is located 3 miles south of Carlsbad on CARLSBAD BLVD.
Take INTERSTATE 5, exit PALOMAR AIRPORT ROAD.
Go west to CARLSBAD BLVD - SOUTH.
Turn SLIGHT RIGHT onto ramp CARLSBAD BLVD. - SOUTH.
Merge onto CARLSBAD BLVD. - SOUTH, continue 1.6 miles to campground entrance.
