Steamboat Rock State Park includes 3,522 acres of outdoor fun along the shoreline of Banks Lake. The big (Steamboat) rock dominates the landscape and is a columnar, basaltic rock with a surface area of 600 acres. The campground is divided into 3 areas and includes 162 campsites all of which have some pretty amazing views. There are also three cabins, primitive and boat-in campsites. The campground has flush toilets, hot showers, a dump station, but no hookups. Each campsite has a table, fire ring and grill. All of the main campground site pads are paved. Outdoor recreation includes boating, fishing, water sports, swimming, biking, hiking, basketball, volleyball, rock climbing, and wildlife viewing to name a few. There's also plenty to do in the winter including ice fishing, ice climbing, snowshoeing and nordic skiing.
