The U.S. Forest Service and the California State Parks operate several campgrounds around the Lake Tahoe Basin.
Generally, most of the campgrounds open Memorial Day weekend and close around the end of October. The length of the open season for campgrounds depends on snowfall conditions and may vary from year to year.
The Lake Tahoe area is located in the northern Sierra Nevada range and is divided up into two areas (North Lake Tahoe and South Lake Tahoe). From the Sacramento area you can take Highway 89 (to North Lake Tahoe), or Highway 50 (to South Lake Tahoe). From Reno (Reno/Tahoe Airport), you can take Highway 431 (to North Lake Tahoe). Highways 50, 89 and 28 circle the lake.

Camp Richardson features a variety of accommodations including: 220 campsites, 110 RV sites (hookups available), hotel, year-round cabins, beachside Inn, a marina duplex on the lake, and a restaurant.
Campground by the Lake

The Campground by the Lake has 157 campsites. The park can accommodate RVs. Some of the amenities include: dump station, free showers, sites with or without electric, BBQ's, picnic tables, and fire rings.

D.L. Bliss California State Park – Camping

Covers 1,830 acres in California's Sierra Nevada and include some six miles of Lake Tahoe shoreline. From promontories such as Rubicon Point in D.L. Bliss State Park you can see over one hundred feet into the depths of Lake Tahoe. From the top of Eagle Falls, in Emerald Bay State Park, you can see a brilliant panorama of Emerald Bay, Fannette Island, Lake Tahoe, and the distant Nevada shore.
Campground has 150 campsites, and it can accommodate campers up to 21 feet long and trailers up to 15 feet. Sorry, no RV hook ups are available, but the park does have showers and flush toilets.
Emerald Bay State Park – Boat Camping Only

Emerald Bay State Park's Boat Camp campground has 20 campsites with mooring buoys. Boaters can either sleep on board their boat, or camp in a designated site on shore. Each campsite has a table, storage locker, and fire ring. Water is available in the campground, and there are chemical toilets. There are no showers.
KOA of South Lake Tahoe – Privately Operated RV Parks & Campgrounds

KOA of South Lake Tahoe provides a heated pool (May – Sept.), playground, hot showers, modern restrooms, fully stocked general store, disposal station, and propane.
KOA offers a variety of campsites that can accommodate anything from RVs to tents to pick up camping. RV campsites have full hook ups with electric, water and sewer. Cable TV is also available at select sites.
Sugar Pine Point California State Park – Camping & RV parking

Home of the Ehrman Mansion, Sugar Pine Point State Park's campgrounds have 175 campsites, and it can accommodate RV's up to 30 feet and trailers up to 24 feet long. Some of the campground's amenities include: hot showers (during the summer), flush toilets, dump station, museum, pier, nature trails, and cross country skiing. Open year-round.
With over 2,000 acres of conifer forest, the park has many miles of hiking trails within the park and a swimming beach that provides visitors with a variety of relaxing summer activities. The park also contains General Creek which has some of the clearest waters flowing into Lake Tahoe. The stream is open to fishing from mid July to mid September.
Tahoe Pines Campgrounds – Camping & RV Parking

The campground has 31 RV sites and 20 tent / RV campsites. The campground can accommodate RV's up to 40' long. Full RV hook ups are available. Some of the campgrounds other amenities include: showers, flush toilets, dump station, playground, store and laundry.

Tahoe Valley Campgrounds have 415 available campsites. The park can accommodate RVs up to 45 feet long with full hook ups. Additional amenities include: flush toilets, hot showers, swimming pool, tennis courts, store, and laundry.

Zephyr Cove campgrounds offer a variety of campsites that can accommodate anything from RVs to tents to pick up camping. RV sites have full hook ups with electric, water, sewer and coin-operated laundry.
For those that prefer to rough it, Zephyr Cove has campsites for tents, tent trailers, and pickups. The campsites Include nearby water, restrooms, showers and coin-operated laundry.
Coachland RV Park

Coachland RV Park has 131 RV sites. The park can accommodate RVs up to 40 feet long, and RV hook ups with cable TV are available. Some of the park's amenities include: showers, new club house, craft room, horse shoes, ball field, and flush toilets. The park primarily caters to senior citizens spending the summer months in the Truckee area.
Donner Memorial California State Park – Camping & RV parking

The Donner Memorial State Park's campground has 150 campsites and a day-use area along the lake with picnic tables, restrooms, and a beach. Campsites can accommodate campers up to 28 feet and trailers up to 24' long.
The park has also almost 2.5 miles of hiking trails within its borders--more enthusiastic hikers can explore even further by visiting the neighboring Tahoe National Forest. Other park activities include fishing and a lakeside interpretive trail. For a small fee, a public boat ramp--operated by the Truckee Donner Recreation & Parks District--is available in the northwest corner of Donner Lake.
Granite Flat Campgrounds – Camping & RV parking

Granite Flat Campgrounds has over 70 tent & RV campsites. It can accommodate short RVs up to 16 feet long. Sorry, no hook ups are available. Be prepared, there are no showers, drinking water, or flush toilets. Pit toilets only.
