Lake Mead National Recreation Area offers striking landscapes and brilliant blue water.  The area offers a fabulous outdoor playground spread across a landscape of geologic wonders, Lake Mead, Lake Mohave and the Colorado River. The unusual combination of desert and water is home to 900 species of plants and 500 species of animals.  Lake Mead National Recreation Area has 8 developed campgrounds, 8 visitor areas, 5 marinas, boat rentals, restaurants, and miles of hiking and biking trails. There are also three “National Recreation Trails” including the Historic Railroad Trail, River Mountain Loop Trail and Black Canyon Water.

Lake Mead National Recreation Area Campgrounds

There are a total of  8 developed campgrounds within the 1.5 million acre Lake Mead National Recreation Area.  Boulder Beach, Las Vegas Bay, Callville Bay, Echo Bay and Temple Bar are located next to Lake Mead. Willow Beach, Cottonwood Cove and Katherine Landing are located south of Lake Mead adjacent to the Colorado River/Lake Mohave. You may also like Lake Mead National Recreation Area Campgrounds. 

Boulder Beach Campground

Boulder Beach is one of the more popular campgrounds at Lake Mead. It is located on the western side of Lake Mead and close to Hoover Dam. All of the 154 sites have great views of the lake and there are 115 with full hookups (including cable TV). WiFi is also available at most campsites.  Group camping is also available. Amenities include drinking water, flush toilets, hot showers, a laundry, camp store, dump station and picnic area. There’s also a marina, boat ramp and boat rentals.

Las Vegas Bay Campground

Las Vegas Bay Campground has 84 sites for tents, trailers and RVs. The campground is first-come, first-served and is located on the western side of Lake Mead. It is situated on a bluff with views of Lake Mead and Lava Butte Wash Wildlife Refuge. Due to the low water level of Lake Mead you’ll need to drive a few miles to get to the lakeshore where you can swim, canoe, kayaking, fish and enjoy other water sports. There’s also some nice hiking trailings along the ‘river’ in Lava Butte Wash. Campground amenities include drinking water, flush toilets and a dump station. Wifi is also available at most campsites.

Callville Bay Campground

Callville Bay Campground is also located on the western shore of Lake Mead and has 80 mixed-use campsites about 1/2 mile from the lake. All sits are first-come, first-served. There are 52 RV sites will full hookups. Amenities include drinking water, flush toilets and an RV dump station. There’s also a nice marina (with boat rentals), boat ramp, restaurant & lounge, camp store and picnic area.

Echo Bay Campground

Echo Bay Campground is located close to Lake Mead’s Overton Arm and is the most northern campground at Lake Mead. The campground has an upper and lower section. The lower section has 34 campsites and is closest to the water (about 3/4 of a mile). The upper section has 112 campsites and is about 1.25 miles from the water. Amenities include drinking water, flush toilets, and showers. There’s also a boat ramp and camp store (with gas). The are is popular for boating, fishing, canoeing, kayaking, swimming and wildlife viewing.

Lake Mead RV Village (Echo Bay)

Lake Mead RV Village is a private RV park also located at Echo Bay. It has 52 full hookup campsites and is about 1 mile from Lake Mead. Amenities include drinking water, flush toilets, hot showers, a laundry, picnic area, playground, recreation room and Wifi.

Temple Bar Campground

Temple Bar Campground is rather remote and located on the southern shores of Lake Mead and close to where the Colorado River enters the lake. The campground has 152 campsites for tents, trailers and RVs. Most of the campsites in loop 1-71 have some decent shade. Amenities include drinking water, flush toilets, and a dump station. There’s also a marina (boat rentals available), motel, cabins and camp store.  There’s also 10 sites with hookups at the Marina RV Park. Willow Beach Campground

Willow Beach Campground is located on a hill above the Colorado River below Lake Mead and closer to Lake Mohave. It’s a very well-maintained and modern campground with 28 full hookup sites and 9 walk-in tent sites (parking available). Some of the sites have a peak of the Colorado River. Amenities include water, flush toilets, hot showers, a laundry and camp host. About a 1/2 mile down the hill is the marina, boat ramp, restaurant, gift shop and convenience store. There’s also a nice picnic area and small beach down by the river.

Cottonwood Cove Campground

Cottonwood Cove Campground is located on Lake Mohave (western shore of the Colorado River) and about 45 miles north of Laughlin. The campground has a lower and upper section. The lower section has 45 campsites for tents, trailers and RVs (no hookups). The upper section has 72 RV sites with full hookups. Both campgrounds have water and flush toilets. There’s also a laundry, marina, boat ramp, camp store motel, sandy beach/picnic area, shuffleboard and horseshoe pit. Boat rentals (including houseboats) are also available.

Katherine Landing Campground

Katherine Landing Campground is on the eastern side of the Colorado River and just a few miles from Laughlin, NV. It has 173 mixed use campsites and 25 RV sites with full hookups. Each campsite also has a table, fire ring and grate. The campground has drinking water, flush toilets, a laundry, hot showers and a dump station. There’s also a marina, restaurant, picnic area, camp store and boat/equipment rentals.   Firewood, ice and supplies are also sold at the camps store. You may also like Lake Mead National Recreation Area Campgrounds.
