Improvements to South Campground at Zion National Park are underway. The improvements in the first phase will consist of repairing existing bathrooms and building new ones. Construction crews will also improve the South Campground’s campsites, sewer infrastructure and stormwater drainage.
Park officials did not give a timeline of when the project(s) will be competed or if it will reduce access to the campground, but they do expect the improvements to reduce the probability of flooding, increase accessibility and simplify future maintenance once it’s completed.
Other improvements at Zion National Park include a new structure for visitors to receive hiking, canyoneering and backpacking wilderness permits. Park officials are also considering traffic configuration changes near Zion’s south entrance and Watchman Campground. They hope this will also address ongoing congestion at the park.
