Silver Strand State Beach Campground has 129 RV campsites in a ‘parking lot’ type layout and is right along the beautiful white-sand beach. All sites have water & electric hookups (50 amp). Self-contained camping vehicles (up to 40 feet in length) only (car or tent camping is not allowed). Also, the sites are pretty close together and most all have a width available of 20 feet.

Beachfront campsites are in row 1 (sites 101-137). Campsites 401 to 429 are along the road/highway – furthest from beach. Check in time is 2pm (no exceptions).

Camping fees include the self-contained vehicle plus 1 legally towed or towing vehicle per site.  You can only park in your assigned site, but day lot #3 is now available for campground extra vehicle parking for an extra charge. Dogs area also allowed only in the parking lots and RV campground. Dogs are not allowed on beach or bayside.

The campground has a dump station ($10 fee), (cold-water) showers and flush toilets. The park also has a concession stand, equipment rentals, aquatic center, lifeguards, day use and picnic area. Campsites do not have table or fire rings/grills.  You can use portable fire pits/stoves within assigned campsites on the asphalt if it is self-standing (6″ minimum clearance between ground and bottom of stove). There are also some community concrete fire pits on the beach. Cell service is good.

Silver Strand State Beach – Area Recreation

The surf here is relatively calm which is good for swimming, surf fishing and some boogie boarding.  The Silver Strand has a bike path stretching almost 10 miles to Coronado. This is also popular with runners, walkers, and inline skaters. You can also get in on the Grunion runs between March through August.  The bay side of the park is popular for sailing, swimming and paddle boarding. There’s also some nice picnic areas there. You can reach it via 3 underground pedestrian tunnels from the ocean side parking lots.

A couple of other San Diego County beach campgrounds you may also be interested in are San Elijo State Beach and South Carlsbad State Beach. Tijuana River Valley Regional Park also has a campground down by the border.

Please send any camp layout, real photos, rates for disabled

    • Hi Richard,
You can view Silver Strand State Beach campsites photos on our page HERE. Not all of the campsites have been photographed because it is a ‘parking-lot’ style campground and all of the sites pretty much look the same. Only self-contained vehicles (RVS or trailers) are allowed. There is not car or tent camping permitted. You can click on the ‘Make A Reservation’ button on the Silver Strand State Beach campground page to check availability, rates and make a reservation.

  2. Diane Hall says:

Is there a place to park an extra car?

  3. Vaughn Wesson says:

are there warm showers at silver strand beach or just beach showers?

  4. Nice camp site but be prepared for windy days! It gets cold very fast. We are currently here in April and only 1 day out of 5 that the wind dies down.

  5. David Niles says:

Good Afternoon Camp Ranger. In reading your information page I see that there are fire rings. I don’t know that I have ever seen them. Where might these be?

    • Hi David,
Good question. The campsites at Silver Strand State Beach do not have tables or fire rings, but there are some community concrete fire pits on the beach/sand. We removed the reference to ‘fire rings’.

  6. dori k Dorsett says:

hi, we are staying there next week. is there a place we can go before 2:00 and after we leave on friday at 12:00

    • Hi Dori,
Silver Strand State Beach has day-use parking areas where you can hang out before and after you leave your campsite. You may want to check with the Ranger at check in if you also have to pay for day-use parking.

  7. If we brought on fire pit could we use it by campsite

    • Hi Bri,
At Silver Strand State Beach – you can use portable fire pits/stoves within assigned campsites on the asphalt if it is self-standing (6″ minimum clearance between ground and bottom of stove). There are also some community concrete fire pits on the beach.

The site states that car camping and tents are not allowed. What is the status on Vans?

  9. Harry Holleran says:

The site states that car camping and tents are not allowed. What is the status on Vans? Thanks!

    • Hi Harry,
Per Silver Strand State Beach overnight camping regulations:
“SELF-CONTAINED VEHICLES ONLY (RV’s) – One which has the capacity to hold waste water in sealed tanks. Minimum – A built-in sink with an enclosed gray water system and a portable chemical toilet with black water tank. Vehicle and tent camping are not allowed. Campers and their pets may not sleep outside their vehicle.”
So – if you van is not equipped as noted above, it would not be allowed.

  10. Carlos Rubi says:

hey whats the best way to actual reserve a spot I have going on this website for months now and cant seem to find a spot they are all reserved please help.

    • Hi Carlos,
Silver Strand State Beach is popular and will be sold out through most of the summer, as well as the weekends from Spring through Fall). Reservations open 6 months prior to the day of your arrival. For example, if you wanted to start your stay on August 20, the first day you could try and reserve a site is on Feb 20 at 8AM Pacific Time through ReserveCalifornia.com.

You can also use our Campsite Assist tool if the campground is sold out. Campsite Assist will send you a notification when a campsite becomes available on the dates you want to camp. You’ll receive a text and email alert when a site becomes available. The alert/notification will also include a link to try and reserve the site. We recommend you click on the reservation link as soon you as you get your alert to try and reserve the site. You can go here to use Campsite Assist:

Can I hook up 30 amps or do I need a converter from 50 to 30?

  12. Leslie S says:

Above it says there is no parking for an extra vehicle. However I called today 11/4 and was told by the reservation person (Joseph) that we can have an extra vehicle and would pay for it upon arrival. Would you please clarify? Also, our 5th wheel is 36 feet and the tow vehicle (truck) extends another 15 feet.

    • Hi Leslie,
Thanks for the info! We too just called to confirm and you can have an extra vehicle at Silver Strand State Beach if it fits within the campsite parking area. There is an additional fee for an extra vehicle. I’ll update our copy too.

  13. Jennifer N. says:

We have a pop-up trailer with sink/toilet/shower. There is a chemical black water holding tank, but the gray water flows outside of the trailer into a bucket. Is this a problem?

    • Hi Jennifer,
You popup should be fine as it would be classified as a self-contained. You could try calling Silver Strand State Beach campground to double check, but they rarely answer the phone: (619) 435-5184. Also keep in my that Silver Strand State Beach and all other California State Park campgrounds are temporarily closed due to Covid restrictions.

  14. Jessica Solis says:

    Hello Camp Ranger,

I have a reservation for July and I have a question about the length of the spot. It states 35 ft but my 5th wheel is 32 ft / 36 with the pop outs. Am I going to fit in the allotted spot? I have called several times but to no avail. Thank you in advance!

    • Hi Jessica, Most all of the campsites at Silver Strand State Beach have a little extra room (length wise), so you should be fine with your pop out extending to 36 feet. The camp host also usually lets you stick out just a bit in the front if needed.

  15. claudia says:

My travel trailer is a 30 amp, do you have connection for a 30 amp or do I need to bring a converter from 50 to 30 amp.

    • Hi Claudia,
Silver Strand State Beach indicates that all campsites have 50amp. Not sure if they have converters to 30amp as they were not clear on that. Sorry we could not be of more help. You may try calling the campground/state beach at: 619-435-5184

  16. We just made our first campground reservation for end Dec ’21. I didn’t see anything in the reservation to put pet information in and if there is a fee for that as well. We have a 45lb Blue Heeler who goes camping with us. Is that okay? Is there a fee for him? We keep his shots and neutered information on us at all times.

    • Hi Noelle,
Dogs are allowed at Silver Strand State Beach campground (no extra charge). They must be on a leash at all time. They are not allowed on the beach, tunnel or back bay.

  17. Hello. We have slides on both sides of our 5th wheel. I read the sites are packed tightly together. Are the sites wide enough for our RV? How wide are they?
    Thank you.

    • Hi Teresa,
Yes, the campsites are close together at Silver Strand State Beach and I’m not sure if slide outs on both sides will work. The width of most all of the campsites is 20 feet. I recommend measuring what the width would be on your right with both slide outs extended.
