Calaveras Big Trees State Park has 129 campsites (in 2 campgrounds) set among a beautiful stand of towering old-growth redwood trees. North Grove campground has 70 campsites. North Grove campsites 1-18 have paved parking spurs and are best suited for RVs. Oak Hollow Campground has 52 campsites (#75-129), best suited for tent camping, but some decent RV sites are also available.   There are also 3 group campsites and 4 rental cabins available.

Amenities include a visitor center/camp store, water, flush toilets, hot-water showers ($), trash collection/recycling and a dump station. Each campsite also has a table, food storage locker, fire ring and grill. The camp store sells ice, firewood, food and supplies. Overflow parking is available at North Grove Campground. Cell service is fair.

Area Recreation & Activities

The Park features two giant groves of some of the oldest living redwoods trees in California. Located on the western slope of Sierra Nevada, the park also includes a visitor center, a nature center and picnic area. Outdoor recreation includes fishing in Beaver Creek, hiking, biking, picnicking and wildlife viewing. Fishing is also good in the Stanislaus River and Beaver Creek.

Pinecrest Lake Campground is also in the area.  It’s about 62 miles away and has 198 campsites.

    One of the most beautiful and well kept Parks I’ve visited in California.
    The trails were devoid of any trash, the restrooms and showers were clean and most of the campsites spacious.
