Hendy Woods State Park Campground has 85 individual campsites in two camping areas (Azalea and Wildcat) for tents, trailers and RVs (up to 35 feet). There are also 4 cabins and hike/bike campsites available.

Campsites can have up to 3 vehicles and 8 people per site. Each campsite also has a table, fire ring, grill and food storage locker. Hookups are not available at Hendy Woods State Park campgrounds. The campground has a visitor center, drinking water, flush toilets, showers and an RV dump station.

Located in the middle of the Anderson Valley wine district, the 850-acre park is warmer and less foggy than redwood parks along the coast. The park is well known for a fallen redwood stump that was home for a man known locally as the Hendy Woods Hermit.

Hendy Woods State Park – Area Recreation

Hendy Woods State Park features two virgin redwood groves – Big Hendy (80 acres) and Little Hendy (20 acres). The Navarro River also runs the length of the park and is a popular spot for swimming in the summer (especially below the Greenwood Road bridge).  Canoeing and kayaking are also popular in late winter and early spring.

Wildlife in the park includes the occasional bobcat and mountain lion and black-tailed deer. You may also see smaller animals like raccoons, rabbits, gray foxes, skunks and chipmunks. Black bears are sometimes seen among berry bushes, and Steller’s jays, thrushes and woodpeckers add to the restful sounds of wind in the trees.

Paul M. Dimmick Campground at Navarro River Redwoods State Park is about 17 miles away and offers another nice redwood forest campground.

looking for rv camping . april 2-4?

    • Hi Kim,
You can click on the ‘Make A Reservation’ button to check availability, pricing and make reservations at Hendy Woods State Park. I did a quick check for you and at the moment there isn’t any availability for April 2-4. You can always try our Campsite Assist app to get text & email alerts if/when a campsite becomes available on the dates you want to camp.

  2. Christian Gremmels says:

Are there any specific animal or plant concerns unusual to other campgrounds I should be prepared for? Also is the hike/bike site open?

    • Hi Christian,

Wildlife in the park includes the occasional bobcat, mountain lion and black-tailed deer. You may also see smaller animals like raccoons, rabbits, gray foxes, skunks and chipmunks. Black bears are sometimes seen among berry bushes, and Steller’s jays, thrushes and woodpeckers add to the restful sounds of wind in the trees.

  3. Anna McConnell says:

    which sites have hook ups?

    • Hi Anna,
Campsites do not have hookups at Hendy Woods State Park campgrounds.

      • Anna McConnell says:

ok thank you. When I am booking it says hookups on the site. (E) at least. It is an ADA site. 37 and 41. which is larger and more private too? thank you.

    • Casarez says:

There are a couple of ADA sites with hookups in the Azalea Campground that are also paved with paved access to restrooms. One cabin in the Wildcat Campground also has ADA access. Hendy has wonderful, flat trails in the redwoods off of the day use area that used to be exceptionally groomed with rails for blind. As funding has been cut, they are typically still accessible, but not to the same degree.

Hendy isn’t an RV campground due to the large trees to navigate and smaller parking pads. Luckily generators are rare which is why the atmosphere is so nice.

  4. Eric Ruvalcaba says:

Are there any areas close by for swimming?

    • Hi Eric,
The Navarro River also runs the length of the park and is a popular spot for swimming in the summer (especially below the Greenwood Road bridge).  Canoeing and kayaking are also popular in late winter and early spring.

  5. RCChampion says:

Rookie Camper here! Can one campsite work for 2 families (2) 4/6 person tents? 7 people total?
    thanks!

    • Hi RCChampion,
All campsites at Hendy Woods State Park can accommodate up to 3 vehicles and 8 people per site. With that said, you should double check the photos of the campsites you’re interested in to see if there’s room for a couple of 4-6 person tents (most should be fine).

  6. How many people can Hendy Woods’s group site accommodate?

    • Hi Corey,
Unfortunately Hendy Woods State Park no longer has group sites. The single-family campsites can accommodate up to 3 vehicles and 8 people per site.

  7. Sherri Mangum says:

The site says open 9-5. What is the latest time we can show up at a cabin that we’ve reserved? thanks!
