Indian Cove is one of the largest campgrounds in Joshua Tree National Park with 100 campsites set among a wonderland of massive granite boulders. The campsites can accommodate tents, trailers and RVs. There is also a group tent camping area here. Each campsite has a table, fire ring and grate.

The campground is close to many rock climbing routes and there is also a short interpretive natural trail nearby. The campground does not have water (so bring your own), but you can fill up at the Ranger station. It does have vault toilets and a campfire center/amphitheater. Pets are okay (on leash) in the campground, but not on the trails.

Could you please explain the concrete water built behind campsite #25

    • Hi Daniel,
Good eye! That was built to form a catch-basin for rain water coming off the rocks. It probably serves to provide water for animals, as well as protect the campsite to a certain extent. It is currently dry.

does the reservation window for campsites open at 7:00am?

  3. Does anyone know if campsite 23 is still in operation despite not being listed on the map on recreation.gov?

Also, site 24 has a 2 vehicle maximum but based on the Google Street View I’m having a hard time picturing 2 vehicles fitting in the pullout and still being able to open doors, unpack, etc. Despite this, recreation.gov says that an 18ft RV is allowable equipment and that there is no overflow parking available. Is there something I’m missing about the parking situation?
