Laguna Overview
Laguna Campground has 97 campsites and is a great mountain getaway just one hour east of San Diego in the Laguna Mountain Recreation Area.
The campground has 5 loops with 47/97 reservable. Most sites are large and can accommodate tents, trailers and RVs (up to 40 feet). Some campsites are designated for only trailer or RV. Sites 87-89 (Blue Jay Nest) and 90-92 (Fox Den) offer Yurt camping. The Yurt sites, as well as about 10 others require a little walk to the camping area. Each campsite also has a table, fire ring and grate. Most campsites are spacious and have good shade. There are also 5 group campsites available to reserve at El Prado Group Campground.
Amenities include drinking water, flush, vault toilets and showers are available. Firewood is also available to purchase from the camp host. Cell service is fair depending on location in campground. Services are limited in the winter months and water may not be available.
Part of the campground is fenced off to protect the habitat of the endangered Laguna Skipper butterfly. Please respect the fence boundary and comply with the maximum site occupancy.
Area Recreation & Activities
The area is very popular for mountain biking, hiking, horseback riding and wildlife viewing. In the spring and early summer there is usually a little lake located just a short distance from the campground and offers some nice photography. Hikers, bikers and horseback riders can also access the Pacific Crest Trail.
Burnt Rancheria campground is also in the area.

do I need reservation to camp? I am hiking the PCT in April. Is this a resupply station too? Do you have restaurants? Groceries?

That’s super cool you’ll be hiking the PCT.
Laguna campground has about 50-6o campsites set aside for first-come, first-serve campers so you’ll be able to get a site. I’m not aware of a resupply station at the campground, but doubt there is one. The Laguna Mountain Lodge & Store is about 3 miles to the south (along the Sunrise Highway – PCT). You may pass that if you’re coming from the south.

My friend will be camping there soon in one of the trailer/RV sites with her small camper. I was wondering if it would be okay if I pitched my tent at her site, is this allowed? Or am I better off walking in and getting a tent site separate from her (no reservations available but I am banking on walk-in availability)? Ideally, I would like to stay with/near to her but in my own tent. My other concern is parking since it seems that only her vehicle is allowed at that site (082). What would be your recommendation? Campsite #82 can have up to 8 people and 1 vehicle (45 feet). Not sure why only one vehicle because it has a large (55 foot long) parking spur. It is also designated as only tent & RV – no tent camping. As a result, I’m not sure if the park ranger/host will let you tent camp with your friend. Final call is with the host/ranger.

We have site #11 at Meadow loop. We will be camping with our trailer (21 ft) and towing vehicle is a pick up truck. Does the trailer count as a vehicle? This site allows max. two vehicles. Can my friend rent a sprinter and camp with us? If she came, is it enough room for parking all vehicles? Or Where can we park our pick up truck?

Hi Christine,
Campsite #11 has a driveway length of 50 feet and you can have a maximum of 2 vehicles (40 feet maximum size on a vehicle). A trailer does count as a vehicle. Your friend would not be allowed to also park his Sprinter van in your site’s driveway (if you have a trailer and towing vehicle = 2 vehicles). There is not any overflow parking for campers. Your friend can park in your site for the day (if it fits) for $10 per day, or in the day-use parking area for $5 per day.
I’m planning to camp with my daughter Mon-Wed Do you think the chances of getting a site are good? I’m not seeing reservable spots for our days. Do I just show up at the check in time and cruise for a spot?

This may be a little late, but there are most first-come, first-serve and reservable campsites at Laguna Campground. Not sure why all of the reservable campsites are not available (mid week), but you should be able to get a first-come, first-serve campsite if you arrive by mid morning on Monday.
Hi, just wondering if the bathrooms are open and usable in the winter months at Laguna campground? I read somewhere that the toilets don’t flush in the winter…

Water is usually not available in the winter (for restrooms, flush toilets and water spigots) so I’d plan on bringing your own water and using vault toilets.
