Twin Lakes Campground has 95 campsites and is located on the shores of Twin Lakes in the Mammoth Lakes area. The lakeside campground is spread out among a forest of lodgepole pine with easy accessing to fishing and hiking trails.
Campsites can accommodate tents, trailers and RVs and most offer spectacular views of the surrounding mountains. Each campsite also has a table, fire ring, grate and food storage locker.
Amenities include drinking water, flush toilets, hot showers ($) and a dump station. There’s also a camp store, camp host, boat ramp and boat rentals. Firewood and ice are also available for sale at the camp store. Cell service is poor.
Twin Lakes – Area Recreation
Outdoor recreation includes boating, fishing, hiking, backpacking, horseback riding, picnicking, mountain bike riding, and wildlife viewing.
Lake Mary and Coldwater are two other campground options in the area.

My family and I discovered Mammoth in 1980 especially the ever so beautifully set campground Twin Lakes I would love to take pictures of the lake with the waterfall always in the background many things have changed the campgrounds are full congestion everything quitets down as the sun sets you can smell coffee n bacon frying in the mountain air have been going ever since
Does anyone know when Twin Lakes campground will be open again?
Twin Lakes campground (Inyo National Forest) is still closed due to Covid-19 restrictions. We have not heard when it may reopen. Anyone else?

It shows first come / first serve … what’s the probability of getting a spot Mon -Thursday ? Also what is the fire restrictions , can you have a camp fire ?

I’ll actually be camping there this Thursday through Tue. If I remember, I’ll check to see if any first-come first-serve campsites are available Sunday/Monday and try and let you know (posting here). With that said, the reservable sites have been sold out soon after it opened and through the summer. That tells me that the first-come, first-serve sites will be popular (even mid-week). I’d say your chances are no better than 50/50 at best that one would be available for a Monday arrival.
Was planning on going camping with my family this weekend how early would we have to be there to try to get a first come first serve spot? Also my kids are 4,8 and 10 can they get in the water there ?

I just returned from camping (Fri-Tu) at Twin Lakes campground.The first-come, first-serve campsites fill up very fast (weekend or midweek). There are usually 5-10 vehicles/campers in line by 8am each day waiting to enter and grab a first-come first-serve campsite as soon as someone leaves the site. I would get there no later than 8am your planned day of arrival. Friday arrivals will be very tough to get a site because most or already taken Thursday.
Is it difficult to get a trailer to the upper campground area? Specifically site 85? Last year, I remember it looking narrow that way but we were down in the flats…

You should be fine navigating your trailer in the upper section of Twin Lakes campground (to campsite #85). FYI – the driveway length is listed as 40 feet (maximum vehicle length is 30 feet), and you can have up to two vehicles (including tow vehicle) at the site.

Im looking to come up either Friday or Saturday to camp for a couple nights this weekend but everything is first come first serve. Any idea on what day and best time to come to land a spot or if it’ll be crazy to land a spot will there be other possible campsites that might have space?

Most likely, all of Twin Lakes first-come, first-serve campsites will be taken by Thursday night – through Labor Day weekend. All reservable campsites are taken too. Sorry about that.
Hi, how hard will it be to get a first come first serve campsite September 11 to 13th? What time would be best to arrive to improve the chance of getting a spot?

All reservable campsites at Twin Lakes are taken Sep 11-13, so this tells me it will be very popular that weekend . . . and probably each weekend until the campground closes for the winter. Your best bet would be to arrive Friday morning around 7-8am and check with with the camp host to see if any of the first-come, first-serve campers will be leaving. If so, you can get ask to get a site and/or get in line. Others will be there early on Friday as well.
if I arrive on Wednesday 9/9/20 what are the chances if getting a campsite.

Our favorite campsites at Twin Lakes Campground are: 5, 6, 7, 19, 21, 29, 32, 39, 40, 43, 45, 46, 46a, 46b, 46c, 46d, 47, 48, 49, 52, 57, 61, 62, 68, 69, 71, 73, 79, 81, 82, 85, 90, 93
With that said, the best of the best (in our opinion) and those that are more secluded/private include 46, 46a, 46b, 46c, 46d. These are also really close to the water. Other nice ones (for privacy) include 43 and 45.
Planning to go to Twin Lakes in an RV. Is there a dumpsite and potable water available?

Getting 5 Twin Lake campsites reservations are going to be tough for this summer, and getting 5 in close proximity will even be tougher. With that said, I’d recommend 41, 43, 44, 45 and 46. Although only 4 sites – 46a, 46b, 46c and 46d are really nice and close to the water. 79, 80, 781, 82 and 83 have a pretty close grouping too. Best of luck!
What is the driveway length of site 44? We have a reservation, but just bought a bigger camper and are worried it won’t fit. The camper is a 16foot box, 20 foot total length.

The driveway length of Twin Lakes campsite #44 is listed as 40 feet. You should fit fine!
Hi-I have a 34′ 5th wheel and I booked campsite 55 (it notes a 40′ driveway) BUT is there enough room to back in with the front end swing of the truck?? How wide is the road?

We’re not located up at Twin Lakes campground and don’t have anyone there, but from experience I know the camp roads are a tad narrow. Campsite 55 is at the intersection of two camp roads, so there may be room to maneuver your rig. You could try calling to talk to someone: 760-934-5795.

Yes – Twin Lakes campground has about 12 first-come, first-serve campsites.
We will be staying at 46A this summer. Is there a restroom located near sites 46a, 46b, 46c, & 46d?
Good job on scoring those campsites Roland! There is a restroom very close (20 yards) to campsites 46A and 46C. Have fun!
Where do we check in for First Come First Serve Campsites? Where should we get in line? Are we supposed to go to a specific campground?
I believe there are no longer any First Come First Serve sites at Mammoth Twin Lakes. This was according to the camp host on August 13, 2021. The reason was people fighting over the available campsites.
You can verify this by checking the reservation system. No “FF” show up except for a few cancellations.

Hi, we are planning to stay 1 night on September. We are 6 adults and 1 little Girl (Who turns 1 year the end of August) Does she count for the maximum capacity)? If I could book just one site would be perfect but I dont want any trouble

99% of the time it is no problem (1-year or less), but the final call is with the camp host or ranger.

I was just able to score site 46d. Says 33 ft site. We have a 28ft trailer. If I remember right, it seemed like a small, hard to maneuver entrance to the 46s. Does anyone have any experience or advice? Can we fit? Are there the short stumps along the entrance? They make it hard to turn the travel trailer.

How swimmable is the lake? Is there a “beach” area near any of the camp sites where kids could play in the sand or on the shore?

Twin Lakes isn’t a good swim lake and there are no beaches there. Your best bet is to drive 2.5 miles to Horseshoe Lake. It has a swim beach/swim area, but the water is a bit chilly even in the summer.
Campsite 46c says 19ft max trailer, anyone know how strict this is? Do you think a 20-21ft trailer would be denied entry?

Twin Lakes campsite 46c does have room for a 20-21 foot trailer (and parking towing vehicle along side). The Twin Lakes ranger/host should not have an issue with this and are generally lenient if your camping vehicles fit within the site.
