Bahia Honda State Park offers three campgrounds/loops (Buttonwood, Sandspur and Bayside) with a total of 80 campsites and is located in the beautiful Florida Keys. There are also cabins available for rent on the beach.

Campground amenities include drinking water, flush toilets, hot showers ($) and a dump station. Generators are not allowed at Bahia Honda State Park campground. There’s also a visitor center, boat ramp, marina, camp store picnic area, beach, and sports equipment rentals.

Buttonwood (sites #1-48) can accommodate tents, trailers and RVs. The campsites are the largest in the park and all have electric hookups. Each campsite also has a table and BBQ pedestal. Waterfront sites are #12-25. #12 and #13 are by the boat docks and #14 is on the channel.

Sandspur (sites #49-72) is located in a hardwood hammock and most are small with low clearance.  The sites are generally best for tent camping, but small trailers or RVs (up to 15 feet) will work. Campsites 57-72 have electricity. Each site also has a table and BBQ pedestal. The waterfront sites in this area are #64-72.

Bayside (sites #73-80) has just 98 campsites with a limited  vehicle height restriction of 6 feet 8 inches. Your vehicle must be able to go under the new Bahia Honda Bridge to reach these sites. The sites also have a picnic table, grill and water.

Pets are permitted (on leash) in camping areas at Bahia Honda State Park, but not on beaches, on tour or rental boats, or in any buildings and may be restricted to other designated areas.

There’s a bit of sand/beach about 330 feet (as the crow flies) from the campsites – on the other side of the road. Sandspur Beach (day use/parking area) is about 1.3 miles from the campground.

Why do you say site 13 is one of the best? Just booked it and am wondering if I got a good site. We love the water sites there. Have stayed on 21 and 22 before but never 13. Thanks

    • Hi Kristen,

Our photographer choose the ‘best/favorite’ campsites at Bahia Honda State Park based on location, size and privacy. Bahia Honda State Park (Buttonwood Camping Area) campsite #13 is fairly large, flat, has some nice privacy and is located next to the water. Hope you have a great time!

      • ROSA M FERNANDEZ says:

What’s so special about site 76? I’m interested to l know because I booked it.

      • Hi Rosa,
I believe our photographer liked Bahia Honda State Park campsite #76 because it was private and flat. Also a decent location within the campground. Have a great time!

      • ROSA FERNANDEZ says:

Thank you so much!!!! I was going to cancel due to no electric but thanks for this!!! I can’t wait!!!

  2. Hi, I’m staying at site 75 on the Bayside and I didn’t see a grill in the photo. Is there a grill to cook on and are campfires allowed on that site?

    Thanks,

    • Hi Bill,
Yes, campsite #75 has a BBQ pedestal with a grill. Not sure if they are currently allowed campfires in the campsites, but you can have a fire in the “designated areas” at Bahia Honda State Park.

  3. ROSA M FERNANDEZ says:

Bahia Honda changed their reservation website last year. Did you all update it?

  4. I have just reserved Unit: Bahia Honda State Park – Loop BAYS – Tent Only – 074
Stay: Sun 05/15/22 – Mon 05/16/22 (1 night)…….. I looked at the campground map and can not find where 074 is located. Can you help me?
    Ivan

    • Hi Ivan,

I just updated a better campground map. Although it does not give exact campsite locations, it does give you a general idea of where campsite #74 is located.

  5. I am staying at site 15 pretty soon, anyone know if the water and electrical hookups are far from where I would park my camper? i.e do i need more length than what other state parks normally need.

  6. Sarah Miller says:

Hi, are the Bahia Honda campsites dog friendly?

    • Hi Sarah,

Pets are allowed in camping areas at Bahia Honda State Park, but not on beaches, on tour or rental boats, or in any buildings and may be restricted to other designated areas. All pets must be kept on a six-foot, hand-held leash and be well-behaved at all times.

  7. Hi, from the current photos I’ve seen, it looks like you can no longer walk straight to the water from your camp site on Sandspur. Is that true? If so, how far of a walk is it from site 72 to the ocean?

  8. Raul Gonzalez says:

Is the bayside more prompt for mosquitos? Is that why the RV side is the ocean side? The tent locations, bayside 70 to 78, could be flooded, and you do not allow full refund cancellations in case of a predicted storm. Why?

    • Hi Raul,
We’re not sure why Bahia Honda State Park set up their campground/campsites the way they did. We’re not associated with the parks/campgrounds listed on our website. We provide the photos of each campsite, availability alerts, RV Rentals (through our affiliate) and other info. I recommend calling the park directly regarding your questions: 305 872-2353

  9. Hi we have booked site 77 on Bayside loop. Do you know if this site can fit 2 tents and 2 small sedan cars ? Thank you

    • Hi JK,
Congrats on booking at Bahia Honda State Park campsite (#77)! The site allows for up to 2 vehicles and 8 people. There is room to fit two small sedan cars and 2 small-medium sized tents. Have fun!

    • 2 tents should fit fine as long as they are not massive.
The cars can usually park in the street area as it is extra wide in this area of the campground. Purchase a portable firepit if you want to have a campfire as they do not allow ground fires.

  10. Kesley Underwood says:

I spent a year after booking Bayside site 75 researching the rules and things to do. It was a beautiful campsite. However, the bayside campsite is a non-electric site, which was known prior to booking. The problem is that no where is it stated, that I could find, that generators are not allowed at all. I was camping with dogs and was heavily relying on having an AC to give them a retreat from the June heat. I cancelled and didn’t even stay the night. I think this site would be great with a more primitive camping setup than I was prepared for. One camper had a boat docked up in the lagoon right across from their site, which looked like a blast! Even though they are allowed, I wouldn’t bring a pet.

    • Hi Kesley,
Thanks for the review and sorry that Bahia Honda State Park didn’t allow generators (and didn’t indicate it on their website). We definitely have made a note of it.
