Gone Creek Campground Mt. Hood National Forest Oregon

Gone Creek Overview

Gone Creek 005

Gone Creek Campground is located next to beautiful Timothy Lake in a lush forest and about 30 miles from Mt. Hood.  This popular campground has 50 campsites that can accommodate tents, trailers and RVs (up to 32 feet). Some walk-in campsites are available.

There are no hookups, but each campsite has a table, fire ring and grate. The campground has a delightful camp host (who sells firewood), drinking water and vault toilets. There’s also a boat ramp providing access to Timothy Lake.

Pets are allowed (on leash), quiet hours are from 10pm to 6am, and there is  maximum of 6 people allowed per campsite.

Our favorite Gone Creek campsites are 6, 10, 11, 12, 18, 21, 22, 23, 25, 26, 27, 29, 30, 31, 34, 35, 36 and 46 (a few have great views of the lake).

Gone Creek Area Recreation

Outdoor recreation includes mountain biking, hiking, horseback riding, fishing, picnicking, boating, canoeing, kayaking, fishing, swimming, windsurfing, and exploring historic sites. Wildlife viewing is also great in the area!

Little Crater Lake campground is another option and is about 9 miles from Gone Creek campground. Pine Point, Hoodview and Oak Fork campgrounds are also in the area.

11 Comments on “Gone Creek”

  1. Eric Edwards says:

“I just stayed at Gone Creek Campground in Oregon . . . the campground is very nice; each site has lots of room. No water or electric, but if that is OK it is a great place. Near Mt. Hood with all its attractions; the lake was fun to boat on and limited to 10 MPH so it was peaceful and not just dodging the speed boats. The campground hosts were very nice and helpful. Had a great time.” – Leslie G

  2. Is there a maximum number of tents allowed on a campsite?

  3. Ashleigh Farleigh says:

How old is the map here? It’s not matching what is listed on the reservation site as of Jan 2019

    • Hi Ashleigh,
Thanks for the heads up on the Gone Creek Campground Map. We’ve updated the map and it is now current (Jan, 2019).

      • Sarah Wattera says:

Doesn’t look like the photos are matching the site numbers since it got updated. Which map are you using?

      • Hi Sarah,
We double checked and most of the sites are correct – just photographed from different angles and some of the vegetation has changed. However, it looks like the campground recently flip flopped a few sites (34/35, 36/37 and maybe 38/39). We will check on those and update our photos/site #s. Thanks for the heads up!

  4. I will be staying at Gone Creek and was wondering if its allowed to leave my canoe on the shore rather than taking it back to my campsite each night?

    • Hi Jay,
We’re not aware of any rules about not leaving your canoe on the shore each night (instead of taking it back to your campsite). You may want to call to confirm. We have two #s for the campground: 503 464-8515 or 503 668-1700
