McKay Crossing Campground has 16 single-family campsites and offers some peaceful camping along Paulina Creek in the Deschutes National Forest. It’s also near Newberry Volcanic Monument.
Campsites can accommodate tents, trailers and RVs (up to 26 feet). Each site also has table, fire ring and grate. The campground has vault toilets, but potable (drinking) water is not available. Firewood is also available for purchase from the camp host. Cell service is fair.
Outdoor recreation includes: fishing, hiking, mountain biking, photography and wildlife viewing. Lava Lands Visitor Center is also worth a visit. It’s located in nearby Bend, Oregon.
Other campgrounds in the area include Little Crater, East Lake and Cinder Hill.
