East Canyon State Park is located in northeastern Utah and has 3 developed campgrounds located next to East Canyon Reservoir.  The Fields of East Canyon also offers glamping tent camping.

Dixie Creek Campground is located at the northern end of East Canyon Reservoir and has 33 campsites with electric hookups. Five yurts and 2 cabins are also available to rent. Parking spurs are paved and range from 30 to 58 feet long. Each site also has a table, shade ramada, fire ring and grill. Big Rock Campground is at the southern end of the reservoir and has 20 campsites that can accommodate tents, trailers and RVs. A hammock-camping site is also available. Camp roads and parking spurs are paved. Amenities include drinking water, flush toilets and trash collection. There’s also a picnic / day-use area next to the campground. Rivers Edge Group Campground is just south of Big Rock Campground.

Other Camping Options & Accommodations

In addition to the developed campsites, the park offers a variety of other camping experiences. Pioneer (full-size) Wagons can accommodate up to 4 people and are furnished with a king sized bed and twin bunk beds. The wagons also have a kitchenette table/stools, small fridge, microwave, table, grill and fire pit. RV trailers (with full hookups), Yurts, Hammock Camping and Cabins are also available to rent.

Echo State Park is also in the area (about 17 miles).

East Canyon State Park – Area Recreation, Activities and Info

Outdoor recreation in the area includes boating, fishing, swimming, canoeing, kayaking, paddle-boarding, water sports, hiking, biking, picnicking and wildlife viewing. Park amenities include a ranger station, general store, boat/watercraft rentals, picnic areas and hiking trails.

East Canyon also has a rich pioneer history. The Donner Party passed through East Canyon in 1846, the first wagon train to pass through this way. One year after the Donner Party passed through East Canyon, Mormon pioneers followed that same trail, however, this time was much easier due to the trail work the Donner party had accomplished. Four days later, Brigham Young and his group of pioneers used this trail to get to the Salt Lake valley.

Many people used the Donner-Mormon route over the years, including the Overland Stage and the Pony Express.
