Lower Bowns Campground has 5 primitive campsites and is located on the east side of Boulder Mountain adjacent to Lower Bowns Reservoir. Group camping is also available and includes 3 sites. The campground is sparsely forested with pinyon pines and juniper, which offer only limited shade. Boulder Mountain lies to the west of the site, and Capitol Reef National Park’s Waterpocket Fold and the Henry Mountains lie to the east.

Campsites can accommodate tents, trailers and RVs. Sites 2 and 3, as well as the group site are reservation. The others are first-come, first-serve. Each site also has a table, fire ring and grill. Amenities include vault toilets. Potable (drinking) water is not available.  Generators are okay from 6am to 10pm.  There is no trash collection, so please pack out all trash. A boat trailer parking lot is also available. Cell service is not available in the area.

Lower Bowns – Area Recreation & Activities

The area is great for fishing and boating. Other activities include kayaking, canoeing, paddle-boarding, hiking, hunting, mountain biking, OHV trail riding, picnicking and wildlife viewing. Stargazing is also quite good.

You may also want to check out Goblin Valley State Park. It’s about 57 miles away and has 25 campsites. Other campgrounds in the area include Singletree (with group sites) and Fruita (Capitol Reef National Park).
