Altair Campground has been permanently closed due to the Elwha River reclaiming the valley after the removal of the Glines Canyon dam.

Altair campground is one of two located in the Elwha Valley and has 31 campsites for tents, trailers and RVs campsites right along the Elwah River. The campsites can accommodate trailers and RVs (recommended RV length is 21 feet, with some up to 35 feet). Each campsite has a table, fire ring and grate. The campground has drinking water in the summer and pit toilets. There is no water in the winter months.

The campground is first-come, first-serve and is generally open mid May through September. Campsites are generally large and spread out, offering nice privacy.

Altair – Area Recreation

Outdoor recreation in the area includes canoeing, kayaking, fishing, mountain biking, hiking and wildlife viewing.

Elwha campground is also closed due to flooding. Heart O the Hills campground is another option, and it is open during the summer months.
