Heart O’the Hills campground has 105 single family campsites and is in the northern edge of Olympic National Park and set among a beautiful old growth forest where trees can tower 300 feet tall. The campground is first-come, first-served and the campsites can accommodate tents, RVs and trailers up to 24 feet (a few up to 35 feet). Each campsite has also a table, fire ring and grate.
Campground amenities include drinking water, flush toilets and trash collection. Firewood is also available for sale at the campground. Campsites are $20 per night (as of 2019). There are also a few food storage lockers available. There are no electric hookups at the campground.
The campground is popular and it is recommend you arrive early to claim your campsite – especially on summer weekends. You can camp up to 14 consecutive days and there is an 8 person per site limit. Check out is at noon.

In addition to camping, visitors can enjoy fishing, mountain biking, hiking, backpacking, picnicking and wildlife viewing.
Elwha and/or Altair campgrounds offer nearby options in Olympic National Forest.

Im inquiring about a campsite at Heart o the Hills. Is this a reservation campground? If so , are there spots arrive Saturday July 22 and Sunday July 23. One of the good spots possibly??

Summer weekends at Heart O the Hills campgrounds are popular so if you’re arriving Friday, I’d recommend getting there before 9AM if you can to better your chances. Check out is noon, so they’ll start letting new campers in soon after that. Good luck!
Are we able to claim multiple sites if we’re traveling with other families and we arrive first?

Yes you can claim multiple first-come, first-serve campsites if there is availability at Heart O the Hills campground.
Is there a way to tell how many camp spaces are available currently? We’re coming from Blaine, WA so we want to know whether there’s a possibility of getting 3 spaces at the campground before making the trek. Thank you! We tried the campground phone number but it’s just a recording.
Unfortunately we don’t know of any way to know how many of the campsites (all first-come, first-serve) at Heart O the Hills campground are available. Best is to get there in early morning. Good luck!

Is Lake Dawn a private lake?

Yes – Lake Dawn is mostly private. Thanks for pointing that out. We removed it from the copy – as a possible place to fish close to Heart O the Hills campground.
I know this will be adumb question, but still want to know the answer. Hi likely to get a camp sport on Friday evening ariving at 8 PM (basically today)

Heart O the Hills campground is popular on weekends and particular during the summer. It’ll probably be busy this weekend too. I’d say you have an okay chance with your Friday night (late arrival), but no guarantees.
We are arriving on a Sunday late afternoon in late July, is this a good time to expect some available in campsites? Or best to wait till Monday noon?

I was wondering how early in the day you could arrive and reserve a site. Is it self-registration or do we wait for the ranger station to open.

It’s a good idea to arrive before noon on Friday if you’re planning on staying over the weekend. The Ranger Station/Entrance Station is usually staffed when the road is open. Fees are collected year-round. If you arrive when the Ranger Station is closed or not staff, you can self-register.
How late could I show up to Heart o Hills campground to check in? Is there a closing time or is the entrance station staffed 24-7? Thanks!

There is a Ranger Station at Heart O the Hills, but it does close at a certain time (we’re not sure when). You can access the campground at any hour (no gate). Keep in mind that Heart O the Hills campground is first-come, first-serve. You may want to try and call the park/campground directly for more info: 360 565-3131
Hello, It sounds like summer weekends are pretty busy. I’m just planning to stay for one night midweek (next Monday)– is showing up by 1 or 2pm still feasible?

Most schools will be out, but you should be okay with getting a Monday night at Heart O the Hills campground (next week) if you arrive between 1-2pm. Would be good if you could get there around noon though. Best of luck!
Hello! I was wondering about your food storage lockers and what size they are. I won’t have a vehicle of my own coming into the campground, so I won’t have any secure place to store any food, trash, or personal belongings should I go hiking somewhere. Would the storage lockers provided be big enough to fit a 50L+ rucksack?

Heart O the Hills campground does have a few food storage lockers (shared use). The campsites do not have their own lockers though. We’re not sure on the size. I recommend you try calling the campground directly: 360 565-3131. Have a great trip!

Good question. We searched and couldn’t find information on parking pad sizes at Heart O the Hills campground. However, we did confirm that ‘most’ campsites will accommodate campers or trailers up to 24 feet (with a few that can fit ’35 foot’). There are several pull through sites that should work for you, and some where you can park your trailers and PU truck side-by-side.
How busy on a Monday in July is it? As I can’t leave early but would need a big site.

Heart O the Hills campground is popular during the summer months, including July. Your chances are pretty good though of getting a campsite with a Monday arrival. Most sites can accommodate RVs and trailers up to 24 feet, with a few up to 35 feet. It’s hard to tell if a large site will be available though. You could call the campground/ranger and get his/her opinion: 360 565-3131
What are the chances of getting a campsite arriving on a Saturday morning the last weekend of July? Are most sites already reserved for the entire weekend?

Heart O’ the Hills Campground is first-come, first-serve and is popular on weekends through Labor Day. All campsites will probably be taken on the weekend and I doubt you’ll get a site for a Saturday arrival.

We plan on arriving this Friday around 5pm. What are the chances there will be a spot available. If we are unable to find a spot are there other options available near by? We’re driving from Coupeville and would hate to get there and not have somewhere to go.

Heart O the Hills campground will be popular each weekend until after Labor Day. I’d say your chances are 50/50 to grab a campsite with a 5pm Friday arrival.
Elwa campground is another nearby option in Olympic National Park. Altair use to be an option, but it has been closed as result of heavy flooding in 2016 and is still not open.

That’s a tough one. Heart O’ the Hills campground is really popular, especially over summer/holiday weekends. There will be plenty of campsites taken by Thursday night through the weekend, but a few will be remaining Friday morning. I’d say your chances are 50/50. Best of luck!
ITS 11:40pm on 5/30/21 and there are drunk loud people all over loop c camp ground at heart of the hills it’s very annoying, no ranger to check on campers!!
Hi, I am planning to drive to the campsite tonight (Thrusday) in order to secure a first-come first-serve site for the weekend. If I reach the campground at 10pm can I simply drive up to any available site and set up camp? I am assuming that I’ll be able to check-in with the rangers the next morning

Yes – you can drive in and claim an open campsite (no occupants, gear or tag on post), then you can check in with the camp host/ranger the next morning. They may also swing by in the morning to check you in. I say your chances are good to get a campsite with a Thursday night arrival. Have a great time!

Heart O the Hills campground is popular during the summer months and particularly over holiday weekends. Since the upcoming weekend includes the 4th of July holiday, I don’t think your chances are very good to find an open campsite with a Saturday arrival. Even arriving Friday would be iffy. You probably would need to arrive Thursday afternoon to find some open campsites through the weekend.

CampsitePhotos.com does not have any personal at Heart O the Hills campground, so I/we can’t say for sure if you’ll get a first-come, first-serve campsite this Sunday. I’d say chances are fair.
We are coming out that way on Aug. 14th and spending a few days .. We Love Heart O hills Camp ground ..we get out there a couple times a year .. My ???? ..will there be any firewood for sale at the campground .. if so how $$$ and if not is there some place near by to buy

Heart O’the Hills is sure a beautiful campground/area. Firewood is available for sale at the campground. I’m not sure how much they charge though – probably around $8 per bundle. Have a great time!
