Ohanapecosh campground has 188 single-family campsites and is located next to the Ohanapecosh River and on the southeast side of Mount Rainer National Park. Campsites can accommodate tents, trailers and RVs (up to 32 feet). Most campsite parking areas are on the small side. All sites have plenty of shade from an old-growth forest. Each campsite has a table, fire ring and grate. Sites can accommodate from 4 to 6 people, depending on the size. Group camping is also available.
Some first-come, first-serve campsites are available but be sure to get their early morning (before 7am) to try and get one. There will be plenty of other campers in line as well and all sites will be gone soon after 7am.
Campground amenities include drinking water, flush toilets and a dump station. There’s also an amphitheater, picnic area and visitor center. The visitor center is open from June to early October and offers exhibits, guided interpretive programs, and book sales. Firewood is also available for sale form the camp host.
Ohanapecosh – Area Recreation
Visitors to Ohanapecosh can experience the beauty and complexity of an old-growth forest. Popular outdoor activities include hiking, sight-seeing, climbing, camping, photography and wildlife viewing. There are also a number of hiking trails that originate from the campground, including the Rove of the Patriarchs trail.
Cougar Rock and White River are two other campgrounds in Mount Rainer National Park. You might also like La Wis Wis Campground.

If it is sold out, you can get notified when a campsite becomes available using our Campsite Assist tool.
I made a reservation for site A005 at Ohanacopesh. There are 6 of us total. How many tents will fit in that particular site? Are there adequate trees for hammock camping?

You can have up to 2 vehicles and 6 people in Ohanapecosh campsite #A5. The site is large and can fit 2, 3, maybe 4 tents – depending on their size. And there are a few trees in that campsite that will work for hammock camping.
NOTE: These campsites only allow tents on actual tent pads. Most sites have only one pad, some have two. The rangers will NOT allow 3 or 4 tents in one campsite. Maximum of six people for most sites, although smaller sites have a max of 4 people. Two vehicles can be a stretch at one campsite depending on the length of the driveway. There is NO overflow parking.

The Ohanapecosh Visitor Center (Mount Rainer National Park) remains temporarily closed and I’m not sure when it will reopen. Rangers will be at information kiosks outside of the visitor center from 10am to 4pm each day You can also try calling the Visitor Center for updates at: (360) 569-6581
I have C028, LOOP C, OHANAPECOSH CAMPGROUND booked for 4 people (2 tents) Sunday night the 5th. Can we bring two separate passenger vehicles ?

They have that campsite as only allowing 1 vehicle. Parking pad is 10 feet by 18 feet. You can have up to 4 people in that site. There is overflow parking at various locations in the campground for extra vehicles.
We booked group site 1 for July. How many tents can it hold? How far are water and bathroom?
Everything is “FF” for this coming memorial day weekend. Do you have any advice on how to score one of these sites? Thank you.
Ohanapecosh is a popular campground and especially around the holidays. You’d have a very good chance of getting a campsite with a Thursday or Friday (morning) arrival. Best of luck!
Hello! I’ve booked #E017 and am confused as in one space it says only 1 car is allowed and another says 2 cars are allowed. Can you please let me know if 2 are allowed? 1 would be a Prius so it wouldn’t take up too much space!

According to Rec.gov campsite E17 can have up to 1 vehicle and 6 people. I don’t see a reference where 2 vehicles are allowed in that campsite. The driveway length is 26 feet (maximum vehicle size 25 feet). With that said the camp host/ranger may allow you to park two vehicles if they fit, but the host/ranger makes the final call.
So We get up at 7Am drive to Cougar Camp Ground to find that the campground is full even though the web sit says that there is a number of sites still available for first come first survived … we find out that you need to be at the camp ground at 7am if we want even a chance at a camp site any day of the week … NOT HAPPY AT ALL .. THIS WOULD BE VERY GOOD INFO. you should post this on your web site .. We ended up at Iron Creek Camp ground and had a great 4 days with my kids and grandkids

Sorry to hear about your experience trying to get a first-come, first-serve campsite. I believe most (popular) campgrounds have people lining up early morning to get those. I’ll definitely make a note of it for Ohanapecosh.
