Curt Gowdy State Park Campground offers 159 campsites in 12 camping areas which are located around Granite Reservoir. Equestrian and group camping are also available. There are 90 reservable campsites and 69 first-come, first-serve. Several bike-in campsites are also available. Reservable campsites can be reserved May 1 through September 31. There are also 44 electric hookup (50-amp) campsites available.
First-come, fist-serve campsites include: Crystal West 179-182 and 185-192; Crystal East 172, 173, 176, 177, 178, 179 and 182; Federal Bay 1, 3 and 4; Russell 48 to 56; Sherman Hill 133-141; and also Twin Bays 125-128.
Campground amenities include vault and flush toilets. Each campsite also has a table, fire ring and grill. Drinking water is available May 1 through September only.
Day Use
Most park grounds are open year round, weather permitting. Some restrooms and most drinking water systems are closed October 1 through early May. Fees: Entrance fee $4-6 (resident), $6-9 (non-resident) per vehicle.
Curt Gowdy State Park – Area Recreation
Outdoor recreation in the area includes boating, canoeing, kayaking, fishing, hiking, mountain biking and picnicking. There’s also some nice wildlife viewing in the area. The park’s 3 reservoirs include Granite, Crystal and North Crow. Granite offers excellent rainbow trout and kokanee salmon fishing. Crystal, the smallest of the reservoirs, has shoreline fishing for brown trout, rainbow trout and kokanee salmon. North Crow Reservoir is located 5 miles west of the Headquarters and is a day-use area only (no facilities).
North Fork Laramie River Campground may also be worth a look during your travels. It’s about 56 miles west via highway 130 and has 60 campsites right along the Little Laramie River.

Is there a pump for water near the campsites? Where is the drinking water located?

Can you swim in the lakes?

Swimming is not allowed in any of the lakes/reservoirs at Curt Gowdy State Park.
I have lived in the state of Wy my entire life. I have never been so unhappy with the camping at flakes as I am now. It is not fair to us that make last minute plans due to jobs etc.

Campsite South Causeway Campsite 105 (SC105) at Curt Howdy State Park does not have electric hookups. The sites with electric hookups include Crystal C168-171 and Tubmleweeds T17-T31.

Some of the causeway campsites are listed as walk in, but the maps appear to have roads leading to them . . . anyone have any help here? We are tent campers, but with the car . . . I don’t want to have to haul our gear a long distance.
The tumbleweeds camp ground is awesome with water and power. Is there any other sites as nice as the tumbleweeds in the plans to build. Will there ever be another sewer cleanout in the park. We sure enjoy the tumbleweeds area. Thank you for all your hard work. Mikie
We’re planning an RV camp trip later this month. Will we have cellphone service? Also, we’re coming from Denver, will we need fishing licenses? The daily park fees are on top of the campsite fee, correct? Thanks for the info…
Hi Frank,
A Wyoming fishing license is required to fish at Curt Gowdy State Park (or anywhere else in Wyoming). Cell phone cover is not very good at Curt Gowdy State Park; you may find a location or two where you get service, but I wouldn’t count on it. Lastly, if you have a camping reservation, then you will not be required to pay the day use fee. You will need to pay a day use fee without a camping reservation. Hope this helps. Have a great trip!
I have reservations for campsite C-172, is this a first come first serve site? I was under the impression the reservation is good. Please inform me if I am wrong.
I was not able to find a picture of this site, can I get in there with a 24 foot trailer?

Curt Gowdy State Park campsite C-172 is a reservable campsite (it is not first-come, first-serve). The site can accommodate equipment up to 25 feet. Have a great time!
In reference to the May 31st post about first come, first serve campsites, this web page has the following information under the Overview:

I am looking for a site for an evening picnic and some fishing but all seem to require a reservation. This is not considerate of the Day Use patrons.

Thanks for your comment. Correct – you reference the first-come, first-serve campsites. Visitors can enter they park for the day and use the picnic areas and fish, etc. without paying a campsite fee. How fast do the first come first serve sites fill up on Memorial Day weekend? Will there be anything left by Sat late afternoon?

Memorial Day weekend is popular and I think you may not find an empty campsite with a Saturday arrival. I recommend calling the park and asking a ranger what they think: 307 632-7946
do you know what electric hook-ups are available at the electric sites? 50 amp? 30 amp? 110v?
