Grand Canyon National Park North Rim area campgrounds include Demotte, Jacob Lake and North Rim. All campgrounds take reservations and are generally open mid-May to mid-October.

Demotte and Jacob Lake are located just outside of the Park. North Rim campground is within the Park and also close to the North Rim Lodge & Visitor Center.

Demotte Campground is just 7 miles from the north entrance of the Park and has 38 campsites. It sits on a hillside overlooking a pretty meadow where bisons roam. Campground roads and parking spurs are gravel. Each site has a table, fire ring and grill. There is also drinking water and vault toilets here.

Jacob Lake Campground is 44 miles from the North Rim park entrance and has 51 rather spacious campsites for tents, trailers and RVs. The campground is along the highway so there may be some traffic noise now and then. The campground has drinking water, vault toilets, an amphitheater and friendly camp host.

The Jacob Lake Inn is across the street from the campground. It has lodging, a cafe and also a neat curious store to check out.

North Rim Campground is in Grand Canyon National Park and close to the lodge and visitor center. It’s a beautifully maintained campground with 78 campsites for tents, trailers and RVs. Several sites are pull-thru. There are also 12 additional tent-only campsites and 3 group campsites. The campground does not have hookups, but it does have drinking water, flush toilets, hot showers ($), a laundry, dump station and amphitheater.  There’s also a gas station close to the campground.

The North Rim of the Grand Canyon is a bit of a drive, but it does offer less crowds, incredible view and miles of hiking trails.  You can also hike the North Kaibab Trail 14.2 miles down to the bottom and stay at Phantom Ranch or Bright Angel Campground. Backcountry Permits are required for overnight hiking/camping in the Grand Canyon.

That’s our report on Grand Canyon National Park North Rim Area Campgrounds. Hope you get the chance to go!

  1. We tent-camped at the North Rim about 5 years ago. Really well maintained camp pads. Some sites had gorgeous views of the canyon. You could walk to the Lodge for a drink and/or meal. One of our favorite campsites.
