Burro Creek Campground and Recreation site has 24 campsites and is located along Burro Creek in a very quiet and scenic area of the Sonoran desert. The campground is first-come first-served and has drinking water and flush toilets.
Campsites 7 & 9, 10-17, and the group site will be available through recreation.gov for reservation. These sites will be available on a first-come first-serve basis if there is NO reservation on the day of your arrival. Reservations through recreation.gov can be made 3 days out meaning if you plan to stay for more than 3 days you should use recreation.gov to PAY for your stay. Sites 1-6, 8, and 18-23 remain unaffected by this change and are still available on a first-come first-serve basis daily.
The campsites are fairly level and can accommodate tents, trailers and recreational vehicles (up to 32 feet). Each site is also equipment with a table, large sun-shelter, fire ring and grate. Campsites 1, 2 and 7-18 are in the flats and a bit more level. Site #12 is the handicapped site and there is not a site #16. Pull through sites include 2, 7, 13, 15, 20 and 23. Site #2 is probably one of the largest pull-thru sites we’ve found – big enough to fit a train!
Burro Creek – Area Recreation
The area is popular for off-roading, hiking, birding and wildlife viewing. There’s also some great rockhounding sites in the area. Visit the Arizona BLM website for more information. You’ll also enjoy seeing and cooling off in the refreshing blue waters of Burro Creek. The perennial creek runs year-round and has some nice swimming holes. You can also kayak in the creek at higher water flows. Don’t forget to pack a camera to take shots of the Saguaros and spring wildflowers (usually March through May).
You may also like Alamo Lake State Park. It’s about 73 miles away (west).

Can we camp at Burro Creek with our horses and pickup camper?

Can a 39′ toy hauler fit in site 2? Are there any other areas in the camp ground that could fit it? We are completely self contained with fire pit, shade and elect./water, etc. so just needs to be fairly level

The campground info states that most sites can fit RVs or trailers up to 32 feet, but we observed that site #2 is much larger and your 39′ toy halter should fit. We camped at Burro Creek in March, I would absolutely recommend this campsite. It’s so unique, beautiful , We went on a few hikes around the area . Hummingbirds were everywhere. We stayed in site 6 , was very level nice spot. The camp host Randy is so nice and very knowledgeable of the area.
Does water run thru the creek year round? Are there swimming holes/areas?

Burro Creek is a perennial creek/stream and there is water in it throughout the year. There are also some nice water falls and swimming holes.
I am assuming that this campground currently has water turned off and bathrooms closed until the government shutdown is ended. Can anyone confirm this?

Hello. Me and the family were looking to camp here this weekend. Was wanting to know if you are able to kayak comfortably here? Also, is there a noise restraint? I have little ones and teenagers and they can get kind of loud lol

Yes, the water flow at Burro Creek is good for kayaking. The campground does have a quiet from 10pm to 8am. You can double check with the camp host. Have a great trip!
Where can we rock hound here?

There are some really good rockhounding sites in the Burro Creek area. Some locations are more ‘secret’ than others. I recommend you visit the Arizona BLM website for more information on where rockhounding sites are located around Burro Creek.
I am handicapped and travel in a large motorhome 36 feet.I really would love camping here.I read that space 2 is very large but I wouldn’t want to travel 300 miles to find out I can’t camp there.Is there any way we could fit in other spaces. Thanks

That’s a tough one to answer. Most sites are quite large (up to 32 feet), and have overhang that will allow for bigger motorhomes. Unfortunately we don’t have an employee on site to confirm what campsites your 36′ motorhome would fit. The website says May 1 – May 19 is “out of season” for Burro Creek Campground. Can I still camp here during this window?

Yes, you can camp at Burro Creek during that window (May 1-19). The campground is open year round, and some sites are reservable:
