We just arrived home from Swanson Meadows Campground. The campground is great and quiet with only 9 sites. We stayed in site 3, but all of the sites are great! This is a great location because it’s off the hustle and bustle of Shaver Lake but very close to the lake (10 minutes or less to the lake). There’s also a store about 4 minutes away. The ranger came around and collected fees every morning. It was Labor Day weekend though, so maybe you can get away with free camping on an “off” holiday weekend/week. The campground was full by Saturday.
