Myakka River State Park – Area Recreation

Myakka River State Park is one of the oldest and largest state parks in Florida.  The river meanders through 58 square miles offering habitat for a variety of wildlife. Trails and boardwalks that extend over Upper Myakka Lake offer visitors the opportunity to get close and view the wildlife. A nifty canopy walkway also gives visitors the ability to view the treetops and wildlife that live there. Outdoor recreation includes boating, fishing, canoeing, kayaking, hiking, horseback riding, picnicking and wildlife viewing. There is also a boat ramp that provides access to Upper Myakka Lake.  And don’t forget to take a ride on the safari tram which offers backcountry tours from mid December through May. You can also get on board the world’s largest airboats for a tour of Upper Myakka Lake.

Went to Myakka River State Park for the air boat ride. Loved it. The skipper was very entertaining and knowledgeable about the wildlife and plants we saw.
The campgrounds looked very nice and I hope to camp there some day soon. It’s worth the trip if you are in the area.

  2. The campsite was so big you could get 2 rv’s side by side in it. The only draw back was the concession stand was 3 miles away. Bring ice and firewood.
