    (Actually stayed here June 24th)
Really nice campground on Lake Russell. We stayed on site 70 and our daughter stayed on site 69. They were large sites and level. It was pretty private. There was a sloped hill down to the water, but we managed to take our kayaks down and it was a nice peaceful time. You could swim here if wanted. There were some campers out in the water at their sites. We walked around the park and drove to some nearby hiking spots.
We thought sites 30 & 29 were the best.
There were a lot of bugs and ants. There was a Dollar General near the entrance. There was no Wi-Fi or TV signal. Making calls on my phone worked at times.

    • Hi Donna,
Thanks for the great write-up/review on Modoc Campground! Too bad there were a lot of bugs/ants though.

    • It’s not lake Russell. It’s Clarks Hill. Didn’t want anyone to get confused. Some call it Lake Thurmond but it will always be Clarks Hill to me.

The 4 1/2 hour drive was worth it. Quite, clean, beautiful place to go for a long vaca. The park attendants are very helpful and very friendly.. you need anything they are there.
Sunsets are blindingly beautiful, along with the view… always a breeze and plenty of free fire wood lying around…
I would recommend Modoc camp grounds in South Carolina for everyone. Dogs are aloud and every site has water, electricity, and a grill plus burn pit.. I never got bitten by any bugs, never encountered furry one’s trying to pillage our area for food..
amazing experience.. please look through the recreation.gov website and pic from all around the country for inexpensive camping, respectful camping and amazing views..
    Christine
