Desert View Campground Grand Canyon National Park Arizona

Desert View Overview

Desert View 016

Desert View Campground has 50 single-family campsites and is located on the South Rim of the Grand Canyon (25 miles east of Grand Canyon Village). It offers spectacular scenery, less crowds and amazing photography opportunities – especially at sunrise when first light paints the canyon in soft pastels.

The campground is usually open May through mid October. Campsites can accommodate tents, trailers and small RVs (no hookups).  Each campsite has a table, fire ring and grate. Very few sites can accommodate large RV’s or Travel Trailers (30 ft. maximum length).  The campground is usually full by early afternoon during the busy summer months. There is a limit of six persons, two tent or two-vehicles, or one RV/Travel Trailer per site. There is a 7-day camping limit.

Desert View campground has a campfire center, drinking water and flush toilets. There are no shower facilities or RV dump station at this campground.  The nearest showers are at Mather Campground in Grand Canyon Village.

The Desert View area offers some of the best views of the Colorado River from the rim of the Grand Canyon. The historic Watchtower and Tusayan Museum are located here too.  A gas station, snack bar and market are located within a few miles of the campground.

Mather Campground is also located on the South Rim. It is about 25 miles away and has 327 reservable campsites. Ten-X Campground is another option and is located about 31 miles away.
