Hurricane River Campground Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore Michigan

Hurricane River Overview

Hurricane River Upper 006

Hurricane River campground has a total of 22 campsites (Upper and Lower Loops) and is located where the river enters into Lake Superior at Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore.

Campsites are suitable for tents, trailers and RVs. All campsites are secluded with lots of room and lots of brush between sites. Each site also has a table, lantern post, fire ring and grate. Campground amenities include drinking water and vault toilets. Food storage lockers are also available.

All campsites are close to Lake Superior, but the Lower loop is closest to the water and beach.  Cell phone reception is limited. There are also ‘generator free’ areas in the campground.

Hurricane River – Area Recreation & Info

Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore has over 100 miles of hiking trails. Other activities include biking, sunbathing, swimming, fishing, canoeing, kayaking, picnicking and wildlife viewing. The Lakeshore hugs the Lake Superior shoreline for more than 40 miles. Lake Superior is the largest, deepest, coldest, and most pristine of all the Great Lakes.

You may also like Little Beaver Lake or 12-Mile Beach campgrounds. Bay Furnace Campground and East Branch of Fox River State Forest Campground are also nice.
