How to Get A Campsite Availability Alert With Campsite Assist

Tips to Improve Your Chances of Getting a Campsite Availability Alert

Camping is more popular today than it has ever been.  Your favorite campgrounds are booking up farther in advance than usual, making it more important to make reservations as soon as possible. Unfortunately getting a campsite reservation has also become as tough as ever.

How to Get A Campsite Availability Alert With Campsite Assist - Scan types

The first thing you need to remember is that life AND campsite cancellations happen. CAMPSITE ASSIST is the best online tool to get an alert when a campsite becomes available through cancellation.

Signing up for a CAMPSITE ASSIST scan is easy. You just fill out the online form and indicate the campground, arrival date, and number of nights you want to camp. Then you choose the scan type – either ‘Specific Scan’ or ‘Matrix Scan’.

How to Get A Campsite Availability Alert With Campsite Assist - Scan types

Get a pack of (specific) scans if you’re planning on doing a lot of camping – you can save up to 40%.

After you’ve selected your scan type, select the scan frequency and pay for the scan.

What you need to know:

  • CAMPSITE ASSIST scans for availability at all campgrounds listed on Recreation.gov, ReserveAmerica and Reserve California. These include campgrounds in most of the state parks, national parks and forest service properties.  Other camping & wilderness permit reservation systems will be added in the future.
  • You will receive an alert if a campsite becomes available on your selected dates and continue to receive alerts each time the campground fills again and another site becomes available.
  • You can click on the link in your original confirmation email to access your dashboard. From there you can update your contact info, pause or cancel a scan at any time, and change the dates if you have not received an alert.
  • Scans will continue to run even if you’ve received an alert – up until your arrival date.
  • The scan will pause on your arrival date if you have not received an alert and you can change the dates up until the end of your scanning period.
  • Your scan will start immediately or when the reservation window opens up for your selected campground (whichever comes first).
  • Your scan will expire once it reaches its allowed timeframe depending on the scan frequency selected.
  • Make sure the email and phone number you entered (to receive your alerts) are correct.
  • We offer no guarantees that a campsite (especially a specific campsite) will ever become available. It all comes down to whether a person is going to cancel their reservation.
  • CampsitePhotos.com does not book campsite reservations. This is prohibited by the Better Online Ticket Sales Act.

Tips to improve your chances of getting a campsite availability alert:

  • Initiate a scan at least 48 hours before arrival date. Reservation systems do not accept reservations for same day arrival.
  • Enter an arrival date well in advance (4-6 months). The more time your scan runs the better. Campers cancel their campsites over time and very few will cancel within a week of their arrival date.
  • Choose a quicker scanning frequency (i.e. 3 minutes) – you’ll have a 10 or 30 minute jump on someone that chooses scans of 13 or 33 minutes.
  • Try shortening the length of your stay (i.e. 2 or 3 nights vs. 6 or 7 nights).
  • Don’t wait! Once you get your alert – click on the link immediately and try to reserve the campsite
