Black Jack – Area & Recreation

Black Jack is in the middle of Catalina Island. It is also along the 38.5 mile Trans-Catalina Trail. Some of the more popular activities to do are backpacking, mountain biking, as well as wildlife viewing. This campground serves as a great base camp for hiking 2,097-foot Mt. Orizaba, Catalina Island’s highest peak. Catalina Island is home to free-roaming American bison, as well as island foxes and bald eagles. Also, the towns of Two Harbors and Avalon are fun to explore as well.

To get to Catalina Island, you can catch the Catalina Express ferry from San Pedro directly to Two Harbors. You can also take the Cyclone power boat which runs between Avalon and Two Harbors. It runs from May through October as part of the seasonal Discover Two Harbors tour.

Some other campgrounds that you might like on Catalina Island are Hermit Gulch, Two Harbors, Bahia Azul Group, Brisa Del Mar, Two Harbors Deck, Little Harbor, as well as Parson’s Landing.
