Crystal Cove State Park Upper Moro 017

Crystal Cove State Park – Upper Moro campground is one of three backcountry/primitive campgrounds in the park and is located on the Moro Ridge Trail about 2.5 miles from the parking lot.

There are approximately 13 primitive campsites and most have great views of the distant ocean and surrounding hills. The campground provides easy access to miles of hiking and excellent mountain biking trails. Wildlife viewing opportunities include deer, bobcat, coyote, pheasant, quail, hawks, and a variety of other creatures. There’s also the occasional rattlesnake (usually appearing from May through October).  You can also hike back down to beautiful Moro Beach (access via a tunnel under the Pacific Coast Highway), and enjoy swimming, surfing, snorkeling, beach combing and sunbathing. There’s also some good marine wildlife viewing here too.

The two other backcountry / primitive campgrounds are Lower Moro and Deer Canyon.  Moro campground is also located in the park (trailers and RVs only).  Crystal Cove State Park Historic District is also just a few miles up the coast.
