Grays Meadow Overview

Grays Meadow Campground consists of an upper and lower loop that border Independence Creek in the Onion Valley area of the eastern Sierra Nevada mountains.   The upper loop has 35 sites (1 to 35) and the lower loop has 16 sites (36 to 52).  Both loops are in a large oak grove that provides shade to most campsites.  Upper loops sites 10, 12, 13, 14, and lower loop sites 40, 41, 46 and 51 are closest to the creek.

The campground is generally open mid-May to Mid-October. Amenities include potable drinking water, vault toilets and trash collection. Firewood is also available for purchase from the campground host. Cell service is poor in the area.

Campsites can accommodate tents, trailers and RVs. Each site also has a parking spur (25 to 40 feet, table, storage locker, fire ring and grill.

Grays Meadow Campground – Recreation and Activities

Popular outdoor activities include backpacking, hiking, fishing and picnicking. There’s also abundant wildlife in the area, including black bear, mountain lions, mule deer, many species of birds and other forest creatures.
