Indian Creek (CA) Campground California

Due to the extensive damage sustained in the 2021 Tamarack Fire, Indian Creek Campground is CLOSED at this time and will remain closed until the area can be made safe for public access and facilities can be rebuilt.

Indian Creek (CA) Overview

Indian Creek campground has 30 single family campsites and is located next to the reservoir in the eastern foothills of the Sierra Nevada. The RV/tent loop has 19 campsites for tents, trailers and RVs, and there area also 10 walk-to campsites with great views of the water. Group camping (tent only) for 40 people is also available. Campsites 13, 14, 16, 18, 23 and 30 are double campsites.

The campground is generally open early May to mid October. Amenities include potable (drinking) water, flush toilets, hot-water showers and trash collection (dumpsters). Firewood is also available for sale from the camp host. Cell service is poor in the area.

Indian Creek – Area Recreation

Outdoor recreation in the area includes fishing (both on the reservoir and nearby East Fork of the Carson River), whitewater rafting, kayaking, boating, sailing, hiking, mountain biking, hunting  and wildlife viewing. There is also a large day-use picnic area next to the campground.

Other campgrounds in the area include Grover Hot Springs State Park, Kit Carson, Turtle Rock Park, Markleeville, and Crystal Springs.
