Little Round Valley Overview

Little Round Valley Campground is one of four primitive wilderness campgrounds in Mount San Jacinto State Wilderness. It is a remote campground that can be accessed by foot from the Marion Mountain trailhead, Deer Springs trailhead and Palm Springs Aerial Tramway (Round Valley) Station. The hike to Mt. San Jacinto Peak from the campground is about 1.6 miles.

Campers must plan on packing in/out everything needed for an overnight stay in the backcountry. All water in the backcountry must be properly purified or filtered before consumption.  There are a few springs along the Marion Mountain trail but water at the campground is unreliable. Campfires are not permitted. A rustic vault toilet is also on site.

The campground has 6 primitive campsites that can accommodate up to 15 people each. Campers must obtain a Wilderness Camping Permit at the Idyllwild Ranger Station or Long Valley Ranger Station. You can also apply for a camping permit by printing and mailing the Wilderness Camping Permit.

Wilderness Camping Permit applications are accepted up to 56 days (8 weeks) in advance. It is important to mail your permit application in at least 14 days prior to your camping dates.  Summer is the busiest time for the park, and these wilderness campgrounds can fill to capacity four (4) or more weeks in advance. Campers who do not have reservations may be turned away if these campgrounds are full.

Developed campgrounds in Mt. San Jacinto State Park include Idyllwild and Stone Creek.  You may also like Fern Basin, Dark Canyon and Marion Mountain campgrounds.
