Lower Peppermint Campground Sequoia National Forest California

Lower Peppermint Overview

Lower Peppermint Campground 003

Lower Peppermint Campground has 18 primitive (first-come, first-serve) campsites and is located near Peppermint Creek at an elevation of 5,200 feet. The sites are fairly large and spread out. Large pine trees provide nice shade to some campsites.

The campground is located along the Lloyd Meadow Road (Forest Road 22S82), 10 miles north of Johnsondale. It is also about  27 miles from California Hot Springs and a 36 mile drive from Kernville. Most services are available in Kernville.

Amenities include drinking water, vault toilets and trash collection. Campsites are best for tent camping but a few have room for small trailers (up to 18 feet).  Each site also has a gravel parking spur, table, fire ring and grill. Cell service is not available in the area. A camp host is on site (#19).

Lower Peppermint Campground – Area Recreation and Activities

Outdoor recreation in the area includes fishing, hiking, mountain biking, horseback riding, picnicking, stargazing and wildlife viewing. The half mile trail to Peppermint Creek Falls is about about 3/4 of a mile from the campground. The best time to view the spectacular waterfalls is April through late June.

The Upper Kern River (out of Kernville) offers whitewater rafting and kayaking, and Lake Isabella also has a variety of water sports to enjoy.  The Trial of 100 Giants trailhead is also about 16 miles from the campground, where you can stroll through really big redwood trees.

Upper Peppermint Creek (dispersed) Campground is also in the area. It is an undeveloped camping area with free camping. Down by the Upper Kern River you may also like Limestone, Brush Creek (dispersed), Limestone, Fairview and Chamise Flat (dispersed)
