Mammoth Pool Campground Sierra National Forest California

Mammoth Pool Campground is closed for complete rehabilitation and expected to reopen in May 2027. The campground facilities were destroyed in the 2020 Creek Fire. Southern California Edison is conducting a two-year rebuild in partnership with the Forest Service.

Mammoth Pool Overview

Mammoth Pool Campground has 52 campsites and is about 1/2 mile from Mammoth Pool Reservoir in the Sierra National Forest.  Chiquito Creek is also near the campground and the San Joaquin River is within a mile. None of the campsites have views of the water, but there is a trail from the campground to the reservoir.

The original campground, constructed in the 1950s, was a total loss from the 2020 Creek Fire and is currently undergoing complete rehabilitation (expected to reopen in 2027).

The campground is generally open mid May to mid October. Amenities include vault toiles and trash collection. Potable (drinking) water is not available.  Cell service is poor in the area.  There’s also a boat ramp and boat trailer lot within 1/2 mile of the campground. Firewood is available to purchase from the camp host.

Campsites can accommodate tents, trailers and RVs. Each site has a parking spur (up to 35 feet long), table, fire ring and grill.
