Philbrook Campground Lassen National Forest California

Philbrook Overview

Philbrook Campground 010

Philbrook Campground has 20 (first-come first-served) campsites set in a forested area along the shores of Philbrook Reservoir in the high country of Northern California’s Lassen National Forest. Several campsites also have water views.

Sitting at an elevation of 5,571 feet, the campground is surrounded by towering cedar, pine, and fir forests, providing a peaceful mountain setting for camping, fishing, and outdoor recreation.

The 20 developed campsites are suitable for tents and small RVs. Each site has a paved parking spur, table, fire ring and grill.  All but one of the parking spurs are about 20 feet in length but #12 tops out at 28 feet in length. Hookups are not available.

The campground is seasonal and generally open early to mid September. All sites are reservable. Amenities include non-potable water, vault toilets and trash collection (dumpsters). Firewood is available to purchase from the friendly camp host. A small (car-top) boat launch is also at the campground. Cell service is not available.

Philbrook Campground – Area Recreation & Activities

Philbrook Reservoir is the centerpiece of the area and offers excellent opportunities for trout fishing, kayaking, paddle boarding, canoeing, and wildlife viewing. The nearby trails and forest roads provide access to hiking, mountain biking, and exploration of the Lassen National Forest’s beautiful backcountry. Stargazing is also the bomb.
