Thunderbird Group Overview

Thunderbird Group campground is open year-round and has 3 large campsites located on the banks of the Upper Kern river about 5 miles north of Kernville.

The campground has trash collection and vault toilets, but no water. Campsites have tables, fire rings, grates  and food storage boxes. Group site #1 also has a nice shade structure. The parking areas for each campsite are also quite large.

Group site #1 can have up to 30 people, site #2 up to 12 people and site #3 can also have up to 12 people.

Thunderbird Group – Area Recreation & Activities

Outdoor recreation in the area includes whitewater rafting, kayaking, fishing, hiking, mountain biking, picnicking and horseback riding. Wildlife viewing is also nice. The town of Kernville has many restaurants and stores if you need anything.

Other campgrounds in the area include Camp Three downriver and Hospital Flat upriver.
