Union Reservoir West Overview

Union Reservoir West campground has 18 single-family campsites and is located on the shores of beautiful Union Reservoir in the Stanislaus National Forest.  The road into the campground is rather rough and has a few big dips/bumps. High clearance recommended. A few sites can accommodate small trailers/RVs but most best for tent camping.

Campsites can accommodate tents, trailers and RVs. Sites 8, 9, 10, 13 and 16 require a short walk (80 to 150 feet) from the parking area to the camping area. Each site also has a parking spur,  table, food storage locker (bear box), fire ring and grill.

The campground is usually open early June to late September.  Amenities include vault toilets, overflow parking and trash collection (dumpsters). Water is not available. There’s also a small, primitive dirt boat launch at Union East campground. Cell service is good in the area. Firewood is also available to purchase from camp host.

Union Reservoir East Campground is also nearby. It has 12 campsites.

Area Recreation & Activities

Both Utica and Union Reservoirs offer boating (5 mph or less), canoeing, kayaking, fishing and swimming. Utica Reservoir does not allow motorized watercraft. Other popular activities in the area include hiking, mountain biking, hunting, picnicking and wildlife viewing.

Other campgrounds in the area include Spicer Reservoir, Sandy Flat and Rocky Point.
