North Fruita Desert Campground Colorado

North Fruita Desert Overview

North Fruita Desert Campground is near the famous “18 Road” mountain bike trail system and nestled among juniper trees at the end of the Book Cliffs mountain range.  The campground has 111 campsites in an upper and lower loop. Group camping is also available.

Campsites can accommodate tents, trailers and RVs (20-50 feet). The upper loop has 58 campsites, including 2 group sites (D9 and D11). Sites can have up to 2 vehicles and 10 people. Each site also has a concrete table, fire ring and grill. The lower loop has 53 campsites, including 1 group site (G24) and is integrated into an event staging area designed for hosting mountain bike and running events.

Campground amenities include vault toilets. Water and trash collection are not provided so please bring your own water and pack all trash out. There is a camp host (spring and fall), but firewood is not available to purchase. Cell service is good.

North Fruita Desert – Area Recreation & Activities

The North Fruita Desert, also known as the 18 Road trail system, offers 33 miles of singletrack mountain bike trails along the base of the Book Cliffs, along with another 25 miles of mixed use singletrack in the Book Cliffs north of the campground. The trails surrounding the campground provide a mix of fast and flowy to tight and technical riding opportunities Easy access directly from your campsite makes riding from dawn to dusk a mountain biker’s dream. The Edge Loop trails climb from the campground into the heart of the Book Cliffs Range, offering challenging long-distance loops and spectacular views of the Grand Valley and beyond.

While mountain biking is the focus of this area, the North Fruita Desert Campground is within easy reach of hundreds of miles of routes for motorcycles, ATVs, side-by-sides and 4x4s in the desert country from the Utah-Colorado state line to Grand Junction. Other activities include hiking, horseback riding, rock climbing, star gazing and wildlife viewing.
