Vogel State Park – Area Recreation

This is one of Georgia’s most popular state parks with miles of hiking trails winding through the Chattahoochee National Forest. Vogel State Park is particularly popular during the fall when the Blue Ridge Mountains transform into a rolling blanket of red, yellow and gold leaves. Hikers can choose from a variety of trails, including the popular 4-mile Bear Hair Gap loop. There is also an easy lake loop that leads to Trahlyta Falls, and the challenging 13-mile Coosa Backcountry Trail.

Lake Winfield Scott Recreation Area is also relatively close (about 8 miles) and offers 37 campsites for tents, trailers and RVs. You may also like Morganton Point Campground, Don Carter State Park, Bald Ridge Creek Campground or  Red Top Mountain State Park.

  1. i was looking for site photos of a specific site. was unable to locate

    • Hi Chuck,
What campsite were you looking for? We do have photos of each campsite at Vogel State Park, but not the cabins. You can view Vogel State Park campsite photos HERE.

      • Your pictures only go up to site 85. I just booked site 88 and the website says there are 90 camper sites. They may have added few that you may need to add to the site.

      • Thanks Mike!
We will try and get those other few campsites photographed and posted to the site. Hope you had a good time at Vogel State Park.

      • hey, it still only shows up to 85 campsites. it’s been almost two years… can you please add the rest, thank you!

      • Sorry about that Summer! Our challenge is that our photographers are based in California. We do not have anyone local (for Vogel State Park). We almost got down there this spring, but couldn’t swing it. It is schedule to be re-photographed in the fall.

  2. Is there a creek view on site 43?

    • Hi Whitney,

Vogel State Park campsite #43 is about as close to Wolf Creek as any of the campsites (just 20 feet), but we’re not sure if it has a creek/water view (due to vegetation). Sorry we can’t be sure.

  3. Where are the grey water dumps located?

    • Hi Ben,

If you click on the ‘Campground Map’ button (underneath the location map), you’ll see where the sanitation dump stations are located at Vogel State Park.

  4. Tim Hazlett says:

Are there grills at the rv campsites. I can’t really tell by the photos

    • Hi Tim,

Yes – all Vogel State Park campsites have a fire ring with a grate/grill, and also a BBQ pedestal with a grill. That said, there may be one or two that don’t have a BBQ pedestal/grill because it may be under repair.

  5. Myra Davis says:

On tent campsite I, how large is the tent pad? We have 4 people and 2 backpacking tents and are concerned that they won’t both fit.

Also how far is the tent area from the cooking area?

  6. Greg Clark says:

We have reservations for Campsite D in a few weeks. How far is this site located from the parking area and do you have any pictures of the site?

    • Hi Greg,
Vogel State Park campsite D is close to the parking area – about 50-75 feet. We will be adding the lettered campsites soon, but here is a picture of campsite D:

  7. Christine says:

We’ve reserved cottage 18 with a fire ring and fireplace. Can we purchase firewood at the state park? Is it provided? Is wifi available at the cottages?

    • Hi Christine,
Yes, you can purchase firewood at the park/campground. Also, wifi is available at the Visitor Center, museum, group shelter, picnic shelters & cottages.

  8. Christine Hong says:

Does Cottage 18 have a creek view? Can we easily get there?

  9. Meggan Kaiser says:

Is it possible to note which cottages have creek views in the listings? Thanks!

  10. Liza Weiss says:

Is site 13 on the creek?

  11. Does the tent sites have electricity?

    • Hi James,
No – the 18 walk-to (tent only) campsites do not have electricity. They have a table, fire ring/grate and tent pad area. Water spigots are located nearby.

  12. Geizabet Gutierrez says:

    Hi,

I did not know that sites 62 to 85 were for tents or pop ups only. It does not say that in the site description in RA. Is this correct? I have a TT 25ft and want to make sure I fit in site 67
    Tks

    • Hi Geizabet,
Not sure where you go your info, but campsite #25 can accommodate tent, trailer or RV. The maximum vehicle size is 25 feet, but usually there is a little more extra room. You can have up to 2 vehicles and 6 people in that site. It also is an electric hookup site with 30 amp. Have fun!

  13. Larry Michalec says:

Good morning. Question regarding Vogel spot #41. We are considering spot 41 and we were wondering about how close the pull thru spot 42 comes back towards what we feel would be the placement of trailer on 41. It looks like 42 is well forward of the parking spot for TT on 41. We hope to avoid spot 42 trailer from being right in front of us on 41. Thanks in advance for your help. Happy camping! Larry and Wendy.

    • Hi Larry,
Good to check! Yes – there’s about a 8-10 foot space between driveways of #41 and #42 so you’ll be fine to get in/out of site #41. Have a great time!

  14. Help! Where do I get my wifi password for cabin 28

  15. Nanette Alligood says:

We are considering coming in November and getting site 82. Is there cell phone and tv reception?

  16. J Landers says:

Good morning, I was looking at another campground and thought I’d check to see if you had updated photos of Vogel after the campground renovations over the last year. It looks like your photos are now outdated.

Be aware that many site numbers also changed and site layouts changed. Photos on the park website are no longer accurate either as they still have the old photos for the previous campsite which in some cases was somewhere else in the park.

New map on park website is awful but you can go to the ReserveAmerica app and there is a functioning map there.

    • Hi J Landers,
Thanks for heads up / info on changes to Vogel State Park campground. We have not updated photos yet but will try and schedule it to get done later this year or early next.
