Cheesequake State Park Campground New Jersey

Cheesequake State Park Overview

Cheesequake State Park Playground

Cheesequake State Park Campground has 50 single-family campsites set in a forested area near saltwater and freshwater marshes in Old Bridge, NJ.  It is also about 1.5 miles (as the crow flies) from Raritan Bay (Atlantic Ocean). Group camping is also available in the Gordon Field Group Area.

The campground is generally open April 1 through October 31. Amenities include drinking water, flush toilets, showers, trash collection and an RV dump station. Each campsite also has a gravel parking spur, table, fire ring and grill. There is an 11-foot height restriction for RV’s entering the camping area due to low bridge clearance. Cell service is good in the area.

The Gordon Field Group Area / Site is open May 1 through October 31. It has fire rings, upright grills and picnic tables. There are four individual sites accommodating up to 25 campers each (tent camping only). The area facilities include flush toilets and potable water. All trash must be carried out.  No vehicles, including RVs or trailers, are permitted on the grounds of the group campsites.

Area Recreation & Activities

Cheesequake is the only park where the northern hardwood forest meets a southern pine barrens ecosystem at sea level offering birders and hikers a remarkable diversity of native flora and fauna in a healthy, natural environment. Visitors can also enjoy kayaking, canoeing, picnicking, swimming, hunting and mountain biking. Hooks Creek Lake also has some decent fishing.

You might also like Turkey Swamp Park or Allaire State ParkBattle Row Campground (up at Bethpage, NY) is also nice.
