Hebo Lake Campground Siuslaw National Forest Oregon

Hebo Lake Overview

Hebo Lake campground has 13 campsites overlooking the scenic, 3-acre reservoir on the slopes of Mt. Hebo.  The surrounding forest of western hemlock, Douglas fir, and red alder provide plenty of shade for the campground and campsites.

The seasonal campground is usually open mid April to late October. Amenities include vault toilets, trash collection (dumpsters), a boat ramp, fishing dock, boat trailer lot and a picnic/day use area. Potable (drinking) water is not available. Cell service is poor in the area.

Campsites can accommodate tents and small trailers/RVs due to the small/winding road that leads to the campground. Each campsite also has a parking spur (up to 18 feet in length), table, fire ring and grill. Hookups are not available. Some close by RV dump stations include Newport RV Dump Station (55mi south), Fort Stevens State Park RV Dump Station (88mi north), and Green Haven RV Park (59mi southeast).

Hebo Lake – Area & Recreation

The Siuslaw National Forest encompasses over 630,000 acres of unique and varying ecosystems. The Siuslaw National Forest offers something for everyone. It stretches from the forests of the coastal mountains, to the Oregon Dunes, to the beaches of the Pacific Ocean. The Mt. Hebo Area provides visitors with panoramic views of the Pacific Ocean and coastal valleys. Mt. Hebo is one of the highest peaks in Oregon’s northern Coast Range at 3,175ft above sea level. Also, it features a unique, biologically rich, high-elevation meadow system. Hebo Lake is popular for trout fishing, with a historic picnic shelter built by the Civil Conservation Corps in 1937.

Some popular things to do here are hiking, biking, fishing, boating, as well as exploring the historical and cultural sites. Anglers will find five accessible fishing docks around the lake with a healthy rainbow trout population. The 0.5 mile Hebo Lake Loop Trail is a pleasant hike around the lake. Also, access to the Pioneer-Indian Trail is nearby. The Pacific Ocean is only about 30mins away.

Other campgrounds that you might like are Castle Rock, Big Buck, and Powder Creek. Coastal campgrounds you might like are Thousand Trails Pacific City, Sandbeach, West Winds, as well as the Sand Lake Rec Area.
