Colonel Denning State Park Overview

Colonel Denning State Park Campground has 52 campsites set on a forested hillside next to Doubling Gap Creek in north-central Cumberland County, PA. The 273-acre park is centered around Doubling Gap Lake and surrounded by the much larger Tuscarora State Forest in south-central Pennsylvania.

The seasonal campground is usually open mid April to mid December. Amenities include potable (drinking) water, flush toilets, warm-water showers, trash collection (dumpsters) and an RV dump station. There is also a playground, day use / picnic area, nature pavilion, swim beach, amphitheater and community campfire circle. You can also purchase ice and firewood from the friendly camp host.

Campsites can accommodate tents, trailers and RVs. About 30 sites have electric hookups. Each site also has a parking spur (most about 20 feet long), table, lantern holder, fire ring and grill.

The campground also has a walk-to and organized group camping option, with the group tenting area accommodating up to 20 people and including four tent pads, picnic tables, lantern posts/holders, and 2 large fire rings.

Outdoor recreation in the area includes boating (non-motorized), kayaking, canoeing, fishing, hunting, swimming, hiking, mountain biking, picnicking and wildlife viewing.
