Big Bend Ranch State Park Campground Texas

Big Bend Ranch State Park Overview

Big Bend Ranch State Park is located in a remote area of southwest Texas along the Rio Grande in Brewster and Presidio Counties. The 311,000-acre state park features a high-desert setting set among rugged mountains and steep canyons.

There are several camping areas including drive-up, hike-in (primitive) or equestrian sites. All of the campsites (except backcountry) can be reached by vehicle. Some roads require four-wheel-drive or high clearance. Lodging is also available at the Sauceda Bunkhouse.

Big Bend Ranch State Park – Area Recreation & Activities

The park has 238 miles of multi-use trails (for hiking, biking and riding horses). There are also 70 miles of unmaintained dirt roads in high-clearance four-wheel-drive vehicles. The Rio Grande/Rio Bravo area offers great day-use access for rafting, kayaking and fishing.  Other popular activities include hiking, mountain biking, or driving the scenic Camino del Rio (FM 170). The park has also been designated as an International Dark Sky Park offering excellent stargazing.

Commercial outfitters lead guided tours and rent sports gear. They rent kayaks, canoes and mountain bikes, as well as other camping equipment. Outfitters lead horseback rides, river rafting trips, 4×4 tours, mountain bike tours, camp-outs, nature and birding hikes, and art and photography classes.
