Cottonwood (Big Bend, TX) Overview

Cottonwood (Big Bend) Campground has 30 primitive campsites in a remote area of in the southwestern corner of Big Bend National Park. It is located in a high-desert oasis next to tye Riog Grande. It is also conveniently located between the Castolon Historic District, the scenic Santa Elena Canyon and the tail end of the Ross Maxwell Scenic Drive.

There are 29 single-family campsites and one group site. The spacious campsites can accommodate tents, trailers and RVs. Each site has a gravel parking spur, table, BBQ pedestal and a food storage locker.  Large trees provide decent shade to most campsites. Hookups are not available.

The group campsite is a walk-in, tent-only site; no RVs or trailers are allowed. Vehicle parking is a short walk from the campsite itself.

The seasonal campground is open November 1 through late April. It is closed during the hot summer months. Amenities include potable (drinking) water, vault toilets and trash collection (dumpsters). Generators are not allowed. Cell service is not available.

Cottonwood (Big Bend) Campground – Area Recreation & Activities

Outdoor recreation in the area includes hiking, biking, fishing, canoeing, kayaking, visiting historic sites, stargazing and wildlife viewing. Bird watching is also popular with opportunities to see the Mexican mallard, Lucifer hummingbird, Mexican jay, black-capped and gray vireos, and Varied Bunting.

You may also like Chisos Basin Campground in Big Bend National Park. It is about 40 miles (about an hour) awa7.
