Sand Island Group Site A Overview

The two Sand Island Group Sites are located near the banks of the San Juan River in Bears Ears National Monument. Sites can accommodate tents, trailers and RVs.

Group Site 1 can accommodate up to 20 people and Group Site B up to 40 people.  Each site also has parking areas, tables (with shade structure), fire ring and grill. Amenities include vault toilets and water (seasonal).

Campground amenities include potable water (March through October) and vault toilets. There is also a boat launch (rafts & kayaks) next to the campground. Cell service is fair in the area.

Sand Island Group Sites – Area Recreation

Outdoor activities in the area include rafting, kayaking, hiking, mountain biking, OHVing, picnicking and wildlife viewing. Some archeological sites and rock art are also in the area.

Sand Island Recreation Area Campground also has 24 single-family campsites. You may also be interested in Devils Canyon campground or National Bridges National Monument.
