South Overview

South Campground in Zion National Park has 124 campsites and is located along the Virgin River about 1/2 mile from the south entrance of the park.  There are also 4 group sites available (7-15 people).

The campground is open (reservations required) from mid March to the end of October and generally sells out. Campground amenities include potable (drinking) water, restrooms with flush toilets, trash collection (dumpsters) and an RV dump station.  Laundry, groceries, and gas are all available within one mile of the campground. Cell service is good in the area.

The single-family campsites can accommodate RVs, trailers and tents.  A few sites are pull through. There are also 18 tent-only sires have a short walk from the parking area. Each campsite has a paved parking spur, table, food storage locker, fire ring and grill. Hookups are not available. Parking spurs range in length from 19 ft. to 50 ft.

Watchman Campground also has 179 campsites for RVs, trailers and tents. And for a little secluded (tent) camping check out Lava Point Campground.

South Campground – Zion National Park Recreation & Activities

Zion National Park is Utah’s first National Park and offers encompasses 229 square miles of spectacular scenery. You’ll see massive sandstone cliffs of cream, pink and red, creeks, rivers, valleys, slot canyons and an abundance of wildlife. Outdoor recreation within the park includes backpacking, camping, hiking, biking, river rafting, picnicking, climbing, slot canyon exploration, canyoneering, horseback riding and wildlife viewing. The town of Springdale also has many shops and restaurants to enjoy.

Hikers can access three trails directly from the facility: the Watchman Trail, a moderate trail that ascends the peak behind the campground; the Archeology Trail, which offers a light hike to an archeological site; and the Pa’rus Trail, a paved walking and biking trail that runs alongside the river, and the only trail in the park that allows dogs.
